If he joins Charlton and not Palace then fine, he wasn't the right man for our job after all.

You've got to really WANT the job to have any chance of being a success at it.

Charlton have a better stadium than us, and still have a decent chance of promotion - especially if their new Board injects some cash for new players. He could go there and build something that doesn't necessarily have to be immediately successful. I'm sure Charlton are thinking beyond just the rest of this season.

At Palace he would need to hit the deck running. The playing squad - while not without talent - is dis-jointed and needs serious attention if we are to avoid relegation. And that relegation would almost certainly mean a wholesale change over of playing staff. And therefore a massive re-buildong job.

So...hate to say it, but the Charlton job actually looks a little more attractive in some ways.

But as i said for openers, if he decides not to join Palace then he wasn't the right man for the job anyway

Exactly What i was going to say! If he doesnt want us fine i dont want or anyone who hasnt got the heart for Palace. Maybe we should stick to people with Palace connections. My order of preference would be: coppell, southgate, hart, dowie, coleman.

If we do end up relegated then there surely is nobody better than Eddie Howe to get us back promoted again!!!

Also, with your order of preference:
Coppell - Wont be managing and is only going to be involved in an advisory capacity
Southgate - Ruled himself out a week ago thank god
Hart - Yes he kept us up last season but he isn't the man to take us forward. If he was then CPFC2010 would have appointed him in the summer.
Dowie - Once again, he had a good 6 months with us in which he got us promoted. He has done NOTHING since then, with any club. Myself and the vast majority of Palace fans dont want the lying t*** back at our club.
Coleman - Sorry but I just don't rate the guy's managerial skills. He's done nothing even remotely of note as a manager and while he is a nice guy, he isn't the man to take us forward.

We should have approached Paul Tisdale if not Eddie Howe. I wouldn't be adverse to Keith Hill either.

This is really starting to drag and wind me up now all the time no one is at the helm there is uncertainty over our head. It's turned into a bloody circus all this Howe stuff. We need to appoint someone who is right for the club now bring in a few re-inforcements in Jan and get a move on trying to escape all this palava is not helping our relegation battle. I would love it to be Howe but I fear it may not happen so I think the board need to get a response from Eddie or kick on in our manager search soon to give us the best possible chance of survival.

I think I will actually cry if he joins the clowns and not us. Think about who will be our manager if its not Howe? Chris Coleman. I dont rate him as a manager at all unfortunately. Nice guy. But not the man for us.

You'll cry?!? I think I speak for most Cherries when I say if he has to go we'd rather he came to you than Charlton!

Shame if that is true about Howe, think he wouldd have been quality, however Hill also looks a good appointment if he is now favourite. Two excellent choices in my view and both have done a similar job in the circumstances.

The only thing which worries me with Hill is his ability to find good championship signings for us - but I guess we will soon find out.

I don't think he'll come, the Chavton $$ may have swayed him. If he thinks his current chairman's a spiv though wait till he starts working for Tony Jiminez.

Changed again -

Hill 11/10
Howe 2/1

So Hill is now the favourite!

Wow. This thread was around the 35 page mark when I last looked on Friday.

To save myself (and my employer) the time of me wading through the pages, can someone please confirm if my following summary is about right or if something needs to be added:

1. Eddie Howe looks more likely to leave Bournemouth than before (as evidenced by an interview on Saturday and comments by his chairman)
2. Other clubs, notably Charlton, have entered the race to sign him as manager
3. Eddie Howe attended the Spurs v Charlton game on Sunday, thus increasing speculation he is going to join Charlton
4. Bookies odds have also shortened on his joining Charlton

I've deliberately left out the various speculations as to Eddie Howe's possible motivations etc.

Is that about it or have I missed anything?

That's about the size of it Johnny.

After all that's been said and written about Howe over the past few days FF, will your high regard of him be damaged if he joins your League 1 rivals and potentially derails your promotion prospects?

Me, neither.
