Integrity Davis????? Where have you been the last few weeks. Why did he do it - why not just say at the very start that he did not have any impact reports. He lied so much and so long - risking contempt of parliament and worse getting others to cover for him. What reputation he had is gone.

Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Dec 2017 3.54pm) er..you probably don't know then that nearly all the north of Ireland called themselves Irish 100 years ago, including Protestants and Unionists, because they were, you know, Irish. As things got more politicised and out of hand through the generations more of them decided to call themselves British. Nothing to do with ethnicity that. It was pragmatic.

Hors D'ouevre anyone? "A number of large-scale national surveys of social identity have been conducted in Northern Ireland. Four such studies, conducted between 1968 and 1994, were reviewed by Trew (1996a). Respondents were asked to select from a list of identities (British, Irish, Ulster and Northern Irish) one term which ‘best describes the way you usually think of yourself’. Results showed a consistent pattern of identification for both Catholics and Protestants. The vast majority of Catholics identified themselves as Irish or Northern Irish – only between 10 and 15 per cent chose British as their primary national identification. The proportion of Protestants identifying themselves as Irish has radically declined over the period of the surveys, from 20 per cent in the 1968 survey (Rose, 1971) to only 2 or 3 per cent in the 1990s (Moxon-Browne, 1991; Trew, 1996b), suggesting that identities became more polarised following the onset of political violence in the early 1970s." Edited by Kermit8 (06 Dec 2017 6.53pm) You said most identified as Irish! In 68 for the unionists we are talking about it was at twenty percent! What a numpty! You don't know what you are talking about as usual.

So if it were 20% who said they were Irish from the Unionist/Protestant community in 1968, which is a lot more than today, have a stab at how many more thought they were Irish (because they are) 50 or 75 years earlier. S'alright. They are still British in the here and now. The law says they can be. Don't get so uppity. Just reporting historical data to back up my 'numpty' claim
