He's gone because it's almost guaranteed silverware, albeit in a less competitive league, and Champions League football. Have no issue with that and respect it more than going to Saudi Arabia purely for money. What I do take issue with is that our first game is now less than three weeks away and he has clearly pissed the club around all summer, massively impacting our transfer plans. Continuing to receive treatment from the club and train at our training ground, apparently even posting pictures, has greatly misled the fan base. This isn't the behaviour of someone with the interests of the club at heart IMO. I also take issue with the fact that we had to find out by him posting a video for the Galatasaray fans with his 'goodbye' to Palace an afterthought. It's the most recent example of a series of disappointing and, in my view, disrespectful actions that included him throwing in a transfer request on the eve of the season and his brother publicly demanding that we let him go. It's a pity it has ended like this but it's done now. He's no longer our player so let's move on, we won games without him at the end of last season. The most important thing now is trying to convince Olise to turn down Chelsea somehow, as that will be a nightmare. The Turkish league is on par with the Scottish league, but have far more racist fans. He has always had his own interests first over Palace, nothing wrong in that. He was never going to win anything at Palace, due to the highly competitive league, if he is happy with some Turkish silverware that’s his choice.

At least in the Turkish league we're not going to hear anything about him. I couldn't name anyone currently playing for Galatasaray.

Zaha is widely reported to have gone to Gala for less money than we offered, and a hell of a lot less than the Saudis would have paid him, so it's a football decision. Like others I'm surprised he's chosen the Turkish league ahead of the Italian one, but I'd imagine it's got more to do with the club than the league. Galatasary are massive, the Manchester United or Real Madrid of that part of the world, are usually in Europe at one level or another, and will be trying to win their league. Lazio tend to come and go a bit, and would be considered big outsiders for the league in Italy. I guess this is like playing for Celtic except on a higher financial level. Wilf will play every week with pressure and expectation to win at a huge club. Now we can get on with the important business of signing Demari f***ing Gray.... Have to agree Galatasary are the biggest club in Turkey, the current Turkish champions, and this moves allows Wilf to play champions league. Ultimately i don't think Wilf was ever going to re-sign (the timing of his wedding and honeymoon strongly supports this) and has essentially taken the best offer on the table. The fact that none of the top 6 in England seemed that interested speaks volumes. Can't believe Newcastle didn't go for him now they are playing in Europe, and have just spent £38m on a left winger. I am also not sure of Palace's £200k offer was ever more than a throw away comment - Wilf telling SP he wanted to leave and SP saying what if we offered you x a week over y years. His agent seems to have used this 'suggested' figure to get the highest wage for his client. The stuff about changing agent in August and won't move until then seems to have been pure hearsay. I wish Wilf well, however, have a feeling he may struggle to settle in Turkey and will move on in a year or so. His exit could possibly have been handled better, but in the bigger picture it is meaningless. He doesn't play for us anymore and we are looking very short up top

At this stage in his career he has found his level. Whether or not he lasts more than a season there is open to question, however the Saudi league will remain an option. I thought it was mad to be painting a mural to a player out of contract. Felt a bit desperate to me. Might have to walk a different way to the ground so I don't have to see it every game.

At least he's gone somewhere where his decision to not 'take the knee' won't stand out (no pun intended). Mind you, that probably would have applied to anywhere outside England.

Ok - now we can move on. Gives us some scope to offer some players revised contracts to keep them here and also look to sign a replacement.

Nothing official yet on the club website, but the piece on the Mail online that includes a statement, apparently from Wilf, looks pretty certain he's gone. So, I thank him for the good times, some outstanding moments, his loyalty since he was 8 years old and I wish him well in Turkey. For me this move is far better than if he'd gone to another PL club where he could have tormented us a couple of times a year. Good luck Wilf and thanks for the memories.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

He wants to win something and european football with his last few years playing. Cant argue with that. Could have been handled better we could have given him a send off etc.. at the end of the season. And sure look Harry Kane also wants to leave to spurs to win something and looks set to be off to Germany. Can see wilf back with us in 2-3 years anyway and guess what? surprise surprise we will be in the exact same position we are in now. 12th with a new stand on the horizon and having gone back to Roy after the next manager does not work out.

Juan Mata is one I can think of. No, he's not a 'Gala' player. Here is a list of their squad for the forthcoming season, note they have already got Wilf in their squad.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
