I think I remember reading you saying you can understand this until mid April or something. I知 not sure when I think I agree with you but I do. LBC seems the best place to hear the most up to date news and expert opinion and I知 looking out for info on stats, kits and learning experience. We can always keep the vulnerable inside and keep providing them the essentials as we池e doing now. It値l need other people to be inconvenienced. Not being able to order food deliveries is the biggie.

All of those idiots may well survive Coronavirus but they would have all infected each other and then gone home and infected their parents and grandparents, killing them in the process About two or three percent of the at risk....And while I recognise it's unpleasant to say it....most of those would have been on the edge beforehand. Whereas....for every one percent the unemployment rate goes up there are many thousands more deaths anyway.....And here you're talking about the world economy. Added to that there are many more very obvious future negative economic affects of this self harming. And just how long do you expect nations of economically active people to stay indoors?.....To me, this all seems totally unrealistic. Edited by Stirlingsays (24 Mar 2020 11.18am)

I think we both largely see this the same way. For me, there are obvious hits you have to take to slow infection rates until the vaccine or effective treatments....like human border restrictions until a complete testing system is set up. I wanted government to focus on setting up systems to address the vulnerable......I think they have distributed advice as well as they could on that...for those that want to hear it. But I don't know about how well they are doing on a practical level to ensure those at risk are catered for.....they are relying on the 'big society' for that. Closing down the economy though and telling everyone to stay in.....I think that is far more dangerous for the whole economically and cause deaths by other means....and it isn't going to work anyway. Tux, I don't think going back to the gold standard....while a valid economic discussion point....It's not going to address what happens over the next coming months. What's your take on what the government should be doing with this?

Until it morphs and starts on kids. It will morph regardless. Most evolutions of a virus are towards the milder stains as they survive longer and hence infect more......killing the host quicker also kills the virus quicker and hence they infect less and evolve more slowly. Are you willing to destroy world economies on the small chance that this virus will morph into a mass killer?....Knowing that your are causing death by raising unemployment anyway....and that's ignoring the other self harming effects of this lockdown. Also, you're all going to go back to normal at some stage....it doesn't make a lot of sense. Edited by Stirlingsays (24 Mar 2020 11.46am)

Until it morphs and starts on kids. I don't think some of the people on here realise what a catastrophic effect it would have on the NHS if we didn't take action to isolate as much as we can. The service would be overwhelmed. It was struggling before the advent of Covid 19 and would not be able to cope with looking after patients with other conditions and at the same time caring for the thousands infected with Covid 19 needing hospital treatment.
