The only reason for not considering Silva that would bother me is the one that says he "wasn't English". I've mentioned a couple of others at various points but we don't know what went on or why the parties acted as they did. Perhaps the discussion broke down over the phone. Perhaps there was an obvious showstopper. Perhaps Silva acted in poor faith. Perhaps (per Painter) Silva had reached some agreement with Watford before Allardyce had even resigned. I don't know, and neither do you, and so we should give Parish the benefit of the doubt, and our trust and confidence. He has done enough up to now to be treated as acting in the club's interests unless you can conclusively prove otherwise, and you can't. Edited by chateauferret (28 May 2017 10.53pm) I have no reason to doubt Parish has ever acted in the club's best interests. You are a valued poster but, Those reasons to not meet someone who has clearly shown talent are BS and covering it up afterwards. If they were headhunting, and with Silva's stats of 23 points in half a season of 19 points it effectively is, you meet, do your due diligence and decide what to do.

A lot of people seem to forget that Silva has 18 games of PL experience. During which time he got a team to have their fate in their own hands. He then lost the 2 games that would have kept his team up, being beaten comprehensively by the worst team in the league by far and a team with shocking home form. How is a manager with experience but no proven success any better than a manager that has for example taken over a struggling championship side and nearly been promoted? We missed out on a manager that has made his name by nearly keeping a team up with the new manager bounce and then failing when it came to crunch time. Edited by coulsdoneagle (28 May 2017 11.46pm)

We all hoped and expected that Palace was moving forward with SA to mid table security at the least a bit like WBA have done with Pukelis. Now we have an opportunity, not without risk, to get a manager who is younger and maybe a bit more progressive in football terms. Don't get me wrong about SA's abilities. But I'd love us to create a version of what Southampton has or what it seemed like Swansea had. So I did think Silva would be worth having a look at but that ain't happening now and there's no point over analysing it. I like the idea of Laurent Blanc but if he does well he'll be off to a bigger club - surely? Same with Mancini...Maybe Monk is the man - not sure what really happened to him at Swansea. There is talk of awkward politics undoing him there. Can't see why Dyche would leave Burnley to us - we are not a massive step up, are we? I'm not sold on the Tinkerman he had a fluke Premier win and I'm happy for him. Seems a nice fella but no thanks. Do we gamble on an up and coming Championship/league manager? It's a tough one for Parish. It's the most important person in your set up and getting it wrong could be catastrophic on so many levels. But at least we're not looking at the equivalents of Warnock ( no disrespect to a good man) who are proven journey men such as Maclaren. In Parish's shoes I would take a risk on a Monk, Jokanovic or Wagner. Why? Because unless we think boldly we are unlikely to break the mould and replicate Southampton. We can always beg SA to come back for a short-term gig at Christmas if it doesn't work out, after all he's under contract!

Edited by coulsdoneagle (28 May 2017 11.46pm) We lost 4-0 at home to Sunderland and 2-0 at home to Burnley. If it wasn't for a Sunderland player unmarked at the far post vs hull it would've been hull needing the draw vs us and us needing the win. This gets conveniently forgotten now he's gone to Watford or because his injury battered squad didn't pull off a miracle after a 3 minute fvck up vs a Palace team worth £100 mil more. Not sure why people are still talking about Silva - hes gone to Watford so no point talking about him. Because the club go about their businesses the right way (privately) we'll never know if he was ever even considered. of the others Dyche would be ok if a little underwhelming (due to the dull fottball his teams play) and Monk could have us playing nice football but getting rolled over every week. It wouldn't surprise me to see a name completely left of field either - like Hoddle.
