The success the British have had with vaccination has caused such a stir abroad that underhand tactics are afoot.

We have made the EU leaders look like the useless pricks they are.

They don't like it.

Indeed.

Making the EU look incompetent doesn't appear like a particularly hard thing to achieve.

Of course I applaud the vaccine development and roll-out, but it raises as many questions as it solves.
Yes, it will undoubtedly save a lot of lives. If only because it reduces the severity of impact on the infected.
However, some people will still get very ill/ die from being infected with Covid, even after vaccination.
And the two critical issues are (for me) after vaccination
1. You can still be a carrier/spreader of Covid
2. We have no idea how long the vaccination is going to stay effective for. (even without considering mutations of the virus)

So ultimately, after all the endeavours, we seem to be more accepting of the "herd immunity" thing, that people wanted to initially avoid.
Some people are still going to get long-term sickness, others will die, but a lot lot more will survive.
And although a lot of people have lost jobs/careers/family/educations/health/accomodation, looking on the bright side, a fair few people have got exceptionally rich from Covid

I disengage, I turn the page.

In Israel and in trials here and elsewhere vaccination had a seriously dramatic impact on hospitalisation. We're not really just talking about a matter of degrees.

1. There are differences between vaccines but again they significantly cut down on infection and transmission rates in multiple studies. From an individuals perspective if you did get Covid 'after' vaccination it shouldn't be that bad and it would likely further enhance your immune response anyway.

2. Natural infection appears to last several months and vaccination (two doses) exceeds those antibody levels so there is reason to believe its a good amount of time. It will likely turn into a yearly flu jab type situation.

I'd say that Brazil is more of an example of actual herd immunity, and it's an ongoing disaster.

As you rightly say the variants issue is a big question mark. There is at least 'some' reason to believe that if the virus substantially changes it will will become less serious. If existing vaccines are semi effective for a period of several months against what's out there right now essentially that will be 'good enough'. mRNA vaccines like Pfizers look more and more impressive as time goes on. Hopefully AZ (hit with terrible publicity - will also be seen as a success in retrospect too. There are some unknowns about how much protection it would provide against the South African variant as those in the SA study were young (non were hospitalised though). That's an unknown, but if the over 70s are getting a booster jab in Sept, then a combination of the initial vaccine, covid cases and boosters will likely bring about broad protection against knowns and unknowns alike). Whatever the outcome of vaccinating it's as good as it's going to get anyway, so we should hope for the best...

The EU are utterly rabid at the moment.

As if raiding factories after (heavily press-leaked) "tip-offs" concerning secret stashes of vaccines destined to the UK (that were in fact due to be distributed to Belgium, oops)...

...they are now seizing shipments of GlaxoSmithKline (no COVID vaccine) Meningitis vaccines (not a COVID vaccine) destined to the US (not in the EU), because they think the vials might (reason?) contain COVID vaccine (that they aren't vaccinating with anyway).

They have gone beyond deranged at this point. Just imagine the line of reasoning.

"We're banning exports of COVID vaccines"
"Look! There's a shipment from GSK leaving for the US"
"Hey, that's outside the EU, right?"
"YES!"
"OMG - is it a COVID vaccine?"
"No, they say it's for 'meningitis'"
"But GSK is British - they're the bad guys!"
"Yeah, right. I bet it's secretly COVID vaccine"
"Too right - let's seize it!"

They are now going to have to test the vaccines (private property) to see that it is indeed meningitis vaccine. I hope the US customer sues them to oblivion for possible violation and contamination of the shipment.

Then, once again, they will be humiliated that their delusional paranoia has exposed them as the deranged nutjobs they currently are.

Unbelievable behaviour from Italy, Dave.

And as if the EU doesn't have enough problems with vaccines

[Link]

The more they continue to punish us the more we will look to do business outside of the EU.

I am already noticing the difference in the supermarkets M&S normally have a range of coffee's of EU origin well in my store they have gone to be replaced with coffees from around the world.

God they’re so childish. If they aren’t careful we could end up boycotting French wine and cheese and anything else we either make ourselves or buy elsewhere. It won’t take that many to boycott their produce to get European businesses to start grilling the EU to cut this out.

We've been doing this for some time. We actively seek out New World wines, UK cheese, UK fruit and veg where possible.

No doubt I'd be labelled some anti-EU bigot by a globalist-supporting Green-party FBPE loon, without a trace of irony.

I have no problem - in fact I relish us finding other ways to skin the cat and if that helps UK business's to grow then brilliant.
Far better we source what we can from our own shores wherever possible.
It has many benefits and few downsides.
I also favour us striking deals with those who want to deal as opposed to petulant children who don't.
Weirdly enough I am sure that in general that the good people of Europe have no issue with Brexit - it is only their bigoted Leaders who do and who will cause problems for their own people just to be vindictive to the UK.
When it starts to affect Porsche, BMW and the like then some common sense may return but in the meantime I am proud to be a Little Englander!

I had my 2nd vaccine today 6 weeks after the first, I guess that's one of the perks of being a volunteer.
