Its all fun and games. It’s not really blind faith, look at what we’ve done in the past. We may not have signed superstars but recent purchases have become essential first teamers (Guaita, Cahill, McCarthy, Ayew). Add to that Ferguson who seems like the right sort of purchase. So I think there are reasons to be more optimistic.

He deserves a break from the grief he gets from opposition fans and the media regarding his alleged diving. Also would not sit well seeing him rip our defence a good one!

When did we last make a beeline for a player where we have had to compete with others clubs. I'm unsure about Guaita but I would hazard a guess Palace had a free run at the other 3. Ferguson yes but that remains to be seen. Again will be a low transfer sum for the PL. Having said that we only went for him because Kyle Walk-Peters decided to go elsewhere even after Roy saying we were likely to sign him. Again once another club shows interest we get blown out the water. Just me, but I have little faith in our recruitment department.

Walker-Peters impressed on loan at Southampton and they signed him for £12 Mill in this 'Window'.

I seem to recall it was widely believed the AWB money would be reinvested in the team....it wasn’t. Why then does everyone seem to think any money Zaha would be reinvested ? I suspect it will be used to bolster the balance sheet with a couple more free transfers and maybe one bargain buy using up his wages. There won’t be any big money buys.

I seem to recall it was widely believed the AWB money would be reinvested in the team....it wasn’t. I think it was wildly assumed, mostly by us, that the money would be reinvested in transfers. When the our financial statement was published in June we discovered that "some" of the AWB money was used to pay off previous transfer debts, and the transfer itself helped us to avoid an FFP penalty. As a result we are in a much better position, financially, than most of our rivals who are carrying huge debts. Sure, we borrowed money as contingency due the lock down, but almost everyone would have too. Moreover, we are not going to suffer as badly many of our rivals due our small ground capacity. I think "some" of the money from any player sale will have to be used to balance the books, but not all. Having said all this, my only REAL concern is the wage bill, I wish we could offload 2 or 3 top earners this window.

I'd imagine that if Zaha were to go, we're just forward most of that money straight into Watford's account and pick up Sarr. I'd be surprised if Liverpool spent big on him going by their recent record and larger loss of revenue, and I'd be surprised if any other club stumped up the cash. The Zaha money would put us in a unique position to. Given Sarr's comparative age and future sell on value, it'd be a good move for us. Hope it happens.
