Sorry, I was actually talking about cars, but I didn't know the detail you've elaborated on, so thanks for the heads-up. No problem my friend, I knew what you were alluding to, just thought it was important to mention. It's a tax plain& simple. When did £12.50 make the air cleaner? Where are the giant fans to blow the nasty air in London away? Why does Sad Dick Khunt have a fleet of 8 diesel 'Chelsea Tractors' to run him about, bearing in mind, he doesn't use City Hall. Sorry, had rant moment there, can't stand the tw@t.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

well the filthy Air Pollution Giants of Eastern Europe & Russia ?They will all be ever so grateful. Grateful that the London air, that blows over them, is so much cleaner. considering all the money involved. They must think we are all a pack of mugs.

With my virtually zero knowledge of farming techniques, practices & the issues that they face, like him or hate him but Jeremy Clarkson with his "On the Farm" program probably did more to highlight some of the problems facing UK farmers today (in a way that ordinary people can understand) than almost any amount of government papers & news bulletins. Hmmm so lots of people have found a way to defeat the number plate recognition cameras. This doesn't bode well for the plan to get people to pay by the mile. As I said in previous posts the honest will pay and no doubt get angry at the dishonest. According to this article some 40% of taxi drivers use this stuff. They should lose their licences not hard just go to the local taxi firm check their cars any with this stuff get done.

Sadiq Khan gives his backing to a new railway link connecting Heathrow Airport with south west London, Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire. This looks quite feasible and unlike HS2 uses existing track except for the terminal 5 to existing south west network, joining at Staines. The sooner they dump HS2 the better, there would be a stop at Old Oak Common if it was ever built, but that's all. Best left to the next labour government.

Agreed however there is one fly in the anointment. Apparently this would require a lot of level crossings in certain places so the company behind the scheme is suggesting tunneling is the answer, paid for by the taxpayer of course. Given how HS2 and Crossrail has been a disaster by both Tories and Labour it does not bode well. Plus Khan couldn't organise a prayer in a Mosque. It would be great if it did happen as one of the legs would mean you could catch a Heathrow train from Waterloo. For those of us south of the river the current journey is a bit of a pain. Anyway the devil is in the detail. Edited by Badger11 (07 Sep 2023 10.28am)

Mayor Khan is threatening to break up the Met police. I actually agree. The Met is far too big and has too many responsibilities, as well as the usual local policing they also have responsibility for Royal and diplomatic protection of VIPS, Anti terrorism and of course most days there are demos in London far more so than anywhere else. Add to that that the Head of the Met reports to the Mayor and also the Home Secretary and you have confused reporting lines. They should strip out national responsibilities like Anti terrorism and either give that to the National Crime Agency or create a new body reporting directly to the Home Secretary. The Mayor should be left with the usual policing duties the same as any other city. Edited by Badger11 (23 Sep 2023 2.56pm)
