Covid is never going away. If every single person had the vaccine it would make no difference to that. We have had flu vaccines for decades and it doesn't stop the vulnerable dying from it and that's never been forced onto people.....nor have people ever been punished for not taking flu vaccines.
Case Fatality Rate for seasonal influenza is 0.1%. COVID 2.1% I have calculated for you that it is 21 times as deadly. Basic R rate for COVID is around 3 and for flu approximately 1.3. Again I have done the simple sum for you, it is 2.3 times more transmissible. Finally we have vaccinations that are 95% effective for COVID but most years 40% to 50% effective for flu. We need to reduce the amount of COVID-19 in the world and respond to it quickly to minimise deaths. Surely self evident.

Why has everyone’s hopes and positivity been dashed today? Have I missed something because someone said something, they aren’t even sure of, to Harry, that may have even been protecting him, even if it was a mistake, which is still a big if.

I am genuinely surprised that more people are not extremely concerned about the proposal for a vaccine passport and the strong likelihood that a digital covid ID pass will be issued. Do you all really want to live in a world where you need to show a pass that confirms you have taken all the latest vaccines in order to access work, education, restaurants, sports events etc? I find the prospect of this extremely scary..

You should have the right to infect whosoever you please.

Maple - my concern is what follows the vaccine passport and the potential introduction of a digital pass to access pretty much mainstream life - you might be happy with this but I am concerned about it.

Do you - as a STEM teacher - find much science 'problematic' then? What do you say to your students when they do? You always raise insinuations without any proof. And indeed, like Trump, make assertions that are transparently false. I bet you rail against those adverts on the telly featuring a woman in a white coat with the voiceover 'scientists agree'...

I bet you rail against those adverts on the telly featuring a woman in a white coat with the voiceover 'scientists agree'... Computer science isn't subjective. The proof it is accurate and works is displayed by the pixels on your screen. Computer science, unlike your statistics is verifiable to a precise level. That's what I am saying here, that I doubt the precision of those figures. I'll state again, what people die of is not an exact science and I and many others have witnessed this even with family members. Edited by Stirlingsays (10 Mar 2021 10.57am)
