Well, it is a truism that the nearer you trade the cheaper the expense. If...we have a no deal Brexit then it will take years to sort out the mess trade wise with our European friends so we will have to import from further afield. Thus, whilst costs to import will definitely go up then I also suspect the variety will also diminish because of those said costs.

Nothing to do with Brexit. It's market forces. If you can't get workers you need to make our jobs more attractive. Non-sense. Their income (the farmers) will be going down after Brexit and significantly for a fair few it is being reported because of predicted labour shortages yet you want them to pay more to attract British workers who aren't interested even at the £10-£12 an hour many agricultural farms pay for their pickers now. Plus, it's seasonal work so who will pay them over Xmas through to Spring? It has everything to do with Brexit. Edited by Kermit8 (12 Nov 2017 10.34pm)

yes here we go " The latest online poll shows that of 1,400 active farmer respondents, 54 per cent voted to leave and 44 per cent voted to remain. 28 per cent thought they would be better off as a result of Brexit and 41 per cent thought they would be worse off (21 per cent about the same). Even among those who voted to leave, there has been a decline in optimism. Horticulture was the only sector in which more farmers voted to remain than leave. The sector is highly dependent on migrant labour from the EU." Some dude doing research

A bit like getting a job at Marks & Spencer's or working over the holiday period at The Post Office

Think you’re find the temporary EU workforce are exploited by the Labour agencies engaged by the farmers , the farmers don’t employed them directly ,they just make payments over to the agency , end of their responsibility, no H&S, welfare facilities and biggest bonus no interference from HMRC

Raise them enough so families can afford to do them,i know farmers have used foreign labour for years, and its work very well. And on a side note,I notice HSBC have now said that it won't be as bad as they first forecast. Agreed, but it won't happen due to the impact on inflation.

Edited by Kermit8 (12 Nov 2017 10.34pm) Nonsense, it's just the usual torrent of misinformation, scaremongering, end of the world scenarios, constantly churned out by the Remain at all costs brigade. Left wingers becoming the 'champions' of farmers whom they despise as fox-hunting toffs most of the time, champions of businesses whom they normally see as the root of all capitalist evil - now they are worried about their profits suffering!
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

In Lincolnshire there's loads of tracksuit wearing, white British youngsters complaining about immigration and lack of jobs with a can of lager on the high street when plenty of eu immigrants live 4 to a room in 3 bedroom houses. There's one solution right there. No doubt the same in Gillingham or Maidstone etc.
