Poor old Corona beer suffered though. I think most of us can agree that it's crap beer anyway, regardless of its name. I agree about the beer. It's almost as bad as Budweiser. The US one and not the real one. They don't even taste good ice cold. Real ale for me. Lots of hops, room temperature, low levels of CO2, thin glass, good company, no lockdown. I can dream!

2.2 million people have died. If you think attributing blame to the country responsible for the origin of the virus is so wrong then your priorities need some serious thought. That's a big number Ted. But in context, it is extremely small. If you compare millions/billions to time, 2.2m seconds is about a fortnight. Whereas 7.7b secs is about two and a half centuries. These are rough averages though, so don't quote me.

Once again though you are jumping to conclusions and attributing blame. If you think that making assumptions prior to the facts being established is wise then it is your priorities that need serious thought. The priority is to discover all that happened and to do so in a way in which China fully co-operates. Blaming her before the truth is known will likely make her defensive and uncooperative. Indeed it probably already has. Trump playing politics with the pandemic has done us all a grave disservice and those who fall in line with him are not helping. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (04 Feb 2021 11.54pm) This pandemic started in China. All that’s being established is how.

Sure it's not in comparison to the population of the entire planet, but if we need to use that as a measure it's proof enough that it's a bad situation. Besides, that's the current number, worldwide it will clearly get much higher unfortunately. Then again a few months ago anyone who didn't think that the pandemic had 'ended' in May was 'brainwashed' according to you and the lamentable attitude you brought. You've certainly had your self indulgent pound of flesh during this misery that's for sure. At least the endless Miss Marple style 'deserted testing centres!' contributions have dried up now. Think twice before continuing with an unnecessary 'world population' perspective as yet another way of pointlessly diminishing others losses.

In fact Graham’s number pales into insignificance by comparison.

Edited by Wisbech Eagle (04 Feb 2021 11.54pm) There is not a chance in hell of finding out the truth. The Chinese have had plenty of time to lead the WHO team down any path they choose. There are only four possible scenarios for the origins of this virus: 1) It was being created in a lab as a weapon perhaps and released accidentally. The coincidence of a virus laboratory in very close proximity to the original outbreak and numerous stories of doctors and scientists going missing or dying means we cannot rule out 1) or 2) or 3) entirely although the most likely origins are from 4). The Chinese will never reveal the full extent of what was being studied in that laboratory so this WHO inspection can only ever be seen as a push down the direction that China wishes to lead us in. I cannot help thinking that if there was nothing to hide why wasn’t an immediate investigation permitted. This along with other unanswered questions is why many distrust the Chinese over this and will be the primary reason why no one will believe the outcome when it is finally published.

Suspect a mix of 2 & 3. My understanding, and gleaned from some serious people, is that when the virus is studied there is something in the protein strand that seems to suggest the part of it that is to do with how a virus replicates/transmits looks 'older' than it should. How you might expect a new virus to evolve over a 30 year period rather than just emerge. THere was a Sunday Times article last year that put forward a theory that the virus itself may have been first discovered about 10 or so years ago. Some guys had been sent into an old mine working to clear out Bat poo and all fell ill. They were isolated and treated. It's possible that this was how the virus ended up in the Wuhan laboratory. Of course all speculation but there is definitely something odd about Covid 19 in viral terms, specifically in how it spreads in the manner it does. On the whole new viruses emerge pretty deadly but also difficult to transmit. Since their only purpose is to replicate, the evolutionary pattern is for them to become less dangerous but more easily transmittable. Covid-19 appears to buck this later part.

I will say that if a virus is created or modified in a lab, then it is pretty hard to hide that fact. We are talking about splicing it's genetic sequence and adding and taking away from it to create what we like. Looking at this through the correct microscope (expensive and relatively out of reach to the average person as they are) will reveal obvious signs of manipulation. If it's a created or modified virus, frankly, it would be obvious. This is not stating that it isn't, but a lot of people would have to be covering this up. Or the Chinese are way ahead of us.

I have to say though, and this is sacrelege to some, I prefer it slightly cold. Not chilled as such, but not really room temperature. More like cellar cold. I remember the split in CAMRA over this important issue.
