I understand your sentiment, but loaning a player we know will perform is not a negative. If the club have the money to buy a permanent player that can or will eventually perform to the same level, then I’d say that is the better option…but have we found such a player? Can we even afford that type of player? With Wolves asking for 35m for Gibbs-White, I’d imagine we can’t afford a player as good as CG.

I’d really prefer the club don’t spend that sort of money on a single player for the foreseeable future. We over spent on Benteke and Sakho…it’s no wonder a few years down the line we didn’t have a penny left to spend on younger players. We have just again started signing proper players again and I’m more comfortable with the 15-20m fees we have been seeing. Saying that…I’d take a punt on Watkins if he was available for around 26m.

The rules are not retrospective so would not effect current or previous loans. The exemption are interesting as Gallagher although over 21 some parts would not apply as he is homegrown. Current epl rules will still apply
