Oh to be an attention seeker

With the greatest respect, as always, this couldn't be further from the truth.

I am starting to see the same familiar pattern emerging from CPFC.
Lots of talk and rumours. Plenty of posturing. Trying to get players on the cheap for money that Clubs won't entertain which in due course demotivates the player we say we want and so he goes elsewhere.
The new season starts with much shrugging of shoulders and dramatic sighing about the state of the overpriced market and Roy is left to once again try and coax bored, ageing and tired players to over perform just one more time in his dull system.
I hope to be proved wrong and to have to eat my words!

I agree the familiar pattern. All talk no action until we invariably walk away empty handed. This is possibly one of the most important periods of recruitment for us, yes we may very well be playing the market just right, I’m massively sceptical we have the ability in the alclub to do this and all we are going to do is allow our targets( if we genuinely have any) to one by one go to other clubs and then the club come out with some pish about getting the right deals for the club, we tried blah blah. To be honest if Roy is let down again he should tell them to stick it anyway.

Theres still plenty of time but how anyone can have faith in palace to get what needs to be done is beyond me. Premier League but amateur scouting/recruiting.

Although the PL season commences on 12 September, the window does not close until 5 October.

However, there will be an additional, domestic window that continues through to 5 p.m. 16 October when clubs will only be able to trade (either loans or permanent registrations) with EFL teams.

I feel we have little chance of any decent recruitments due to finances. SP has never told us what has happened to the so-called development of Selhurst Park so why should we expect any new signings to boost the squad???

We must have some funds available as we had lined up Christian Kouame and a French left back in the January window only for injuries to scupper both deals.
We were also in for Ferguson, a deal which has subsequently been concluded.
I suppose additional funds will partly depend on what happens with the likes of Zaha, Benteke, Sakho, Meyer and Wickham.
There’s uncertainty on their futures this summer and what happens with them will determine our overall budget and wage bill flexibility.
There’s much to do, although being Palace you could see decisions being deferred until next January!

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s like the last few transfer windows. Get Palace linked to a few promising players but end up with a couple of ageing free transfers and a couple of youngsters we’ve never heard of and will never get near the first team.

Steve will come out with the trying to get players across the line after deadline day and we’ll have basically the same squad as last year. Oh and Wickham’s fully fit and it’s like having a new player.

We could do with investing early this year, even if it costs a little more. It would boost morale and perhaps encourage others to join. At the moment we must be one of the least attractive propositions in the premier league.

I thought I was a pessimist (hence my nom de plume) but there are so many prophets of doom amongst my fellow posters, I think I ought to change my moniker.

Let's see what happens in the next two weeks and hope that Dazza's optimism will be rewarded in some way.

after all, there's hardly been a flurry of signings by other smaller PL clubs so far so we're not alone by any means.

Perhaps we could start a doomsday clock?

About 1 minute and a couple of seconds to midnight as it stands!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

If transfers were an injury at work, they would be repetitive stress.
