It's not what he said but don't let pesky facts get in the way. Nothing the ideological left hate more than an apostate. aprt from non white people who succeed on their own merit
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

A good article the other day pointed out that in the past people on the left, politicians and celebrities e.g. Jamie Oliver have said the same type of thing. However if you are a Tory you have to be denounced for saying it. I think the facts speak for themselves and his central point that poor people can't cook and exist on a bad diet which is often expensive is true in many cases. However it is more fun to shoot the messenger rather than tackle the actual problem.

However, his actual points weren't anything like as insulting as portrayed....which we know is for political purposes. When Labour supporting Jamie Oliver was making these kind of points there were none of these reactions. Is it just Tory hatred? There are actually people who need help with budgeting and cooking and that's not an insult to anybody.

If our political class, and lets not forget that this is a supposedly Tory Government, with a huge majority, wanted to make a genuine difference that would impact millions of people within a week then they could announce a huge cut in duty on fuel. Straight away, putting more money in people's pockets. But they don't because they are essentially bought and paid for by Saudi petro-dollars. If the official opposition wanted to make a genuine difference tht would impact millions of people within a week then they could have it as a very specific policy to urge the Government to announce a huge cut in duty on fuel. But they don't because they are essentially bought and paid for by Saudi petro-dollars. We live in a system that is no longer a functioning one on behalf of the people it claims to represent.

It is beyond pointless. In the greater scheme of things, absolute froth. But still, people will indulge in throwing all sorts of crap about whilst getting ripped off at the petrol pumps or being scaled in the shops.

""He also offered an invitation for Opposition MPs to visit a scheme in his own constituency that represented 'a real food bank' and allowed people to 'make a meal for about 30p a day'"" Perhaps the MPs should take him up on the offer and then we will know what he was referring to and whether he is right.

There are actually people who need help with budgeting and cooking and that's not an insult to anybody. I did not really understand his comment there was "not this massive use for food banks in this country" I laud the idea of teaching better budgeting and cooking skills. It was done in home economics classes which were terminated by the Conservative Government in 2016 for being ‘too soft’. He also said a meal could be cooked for as little as 30p. Yet the cooking cost alone would be that much given the current prices of gas and electricity He simply reinforces a conservative view that anyone poor only has themselves to blame. Just like Cryrst, angry at people for being poor. It is the other side of the coin in a society where some become (usually start) obscenely Rich. When Rachel Maclean said people should get more or better jobs I was waiting for her to propose some help. Maybe retraining or childcare. But no, that’s not forthcoming, people should just be less lazy/useless/poorly educated/sickly/old.
