Is an out and out goalscorer at any level. Goal ratio is 0.63 Would take him all day long, with our wingers he would score loads for us full stop. No thanks would be a waste of good money. I'm still trying to work that one out, as he would suffer the same fate as all other strikers we have, lack of a half decent Service. All strikers rely on a quality service into the box that they can feed off, that is just not happening Bolasie's is woeful, Zaha is beginning to provide a better ball into the box but it's still too infrequent to be called good, but it is getting there.
Which exactly says why we need that sort of targetman striker, a player who brings others into play and can do a bit of out muscling defenders to pick up on the scraps and lose balls that come of Zaha and Bolaise when the charge into the box. What scraps, the balls into the danger area by both wide men are poor(and that's complimentary) they are either over hit far too high, or don't either beat the first defender or are nowhere near the target man. For my money Murray is a better target man than Austin, Murray scored 30 goals in our promotion season with not very good service, Austin has never score 30 in a season, his best is 24 and that is with Burnley who played to his strengths, and that's not going to happen at Palace as we do not play that way.
Another 10 were from inside the 6 yard box marginly better than a penalty you might say. If this doesn't constitute good service please can you point out a team that does provide good service to their front men. Bayern doesn't count. English clubs only. Let me see where do I start, Man City 26 goals of which 18 were from the strikes, Arsenal 22 goals of which 17 were from the strike force, Leicester 25 goals of which 22 were from the strikes, West Ham 23 goals of which 14 were from the strike force, Tottenham 20 goals of which 14 were from the strike force, Everton 20 goals of which 19 were from the strike force, Southampton 19 goals of which 15 were from the strike force, Crystal Palace 12 goals, of which 3(Bolasie 2 Zaha 1) were from the strike force, 9 of which have come from defensive players, do I need too say more other than strikes need service, our wide men do not provide that. To add even if we had Messi and Ronaldo in the middle they would score very little with the service from our wide players. Edited by Sg Bilko (11 Nov 2015 1.56pm) Thanks for that. How many more goals would these teams score if the service was better? Would Charlie Austin have scored more goals if the service to him was better too? Murray played as a loan front man that season but if you count Wilf, And Bolaise's goals as forwards plus Philips' I'm sure we were somewhere between 60-80% of goals scored by the 'strikes'. I don't think numbers alone tell the story. Good players make and score goals, and good players lay them on a plate, bad defending also creates goals. To say the service was bad in our promotion season isn't an opinion I agree with, I still find it funny. I bet Glenn would agree with me to. Shame there isn't another video that shows Yannick and Wilf kicking crosses straight out for goal kicks. Yes service could always be better, but the reason we weren't better that season is that we couldn't keep clean sheets. Wilf cut a lot of balls back from the byline that season because he was getting round fullbacks at will. Sometimes the movement from Murray wasn't great, sometimes he missed or it was saved, sometimes it was well defended, and sometimes the cross was poor. On the whole the service was more than decent Murray scored 31 goals. You need to take-off your rose tinted glasses, and look at the whole picture.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 If we are going to go for a striker I'd like it to be Austin. Personally think he'd be good value He may not be perfect but he has a good track record in British leagues. If we look abroad the risk increases exponentially. This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 Hello, I am either seeking guidance or trying to bore everyone. My view is that not having effective strikers for a little while can be beneficial - as there are empty boots to fill. This has been done well at Leicester (two goal scorers) and at Everton (four - two 21, two 22). I trust Alan Pardew, and look forward to seeing some of our prospects getting games in February (if they start matches in December and January, there is an indication that they or others are for sale). The other side of the coin is playing them - suggesting to the world that we do not need to buy, allowing us to snap up new assets as bargains. COYP

If we look abroad the risk increases expedentially. The fortunate thing is we have owners who are not stupid enough to spend over £7m for a player with only 6 months left on his contract, when they can get him for nothing at the end of the season, as QPR are unlikely to be promoted this season, 3 wins in their last 10 games is simply not enough to gain the points needed.

a) Sign him up with a precontract agreement In the summer I felt £15mill was too much for him. I still do however we are in a far different place to where I expected. Whilst we can't piss money away £7mill for him could more or less pay for itself in league position alone. e,g, Liverpool finished 6th last season and got £5 mill more than us. Also, at this level there is no such thing as a free transfer, you pay a premium somewhere along the line whether signing on fee or in salary

Yesterday after the game, Austin said his going nowhere. And the fact he has already turned us down ! Plus of course nobody will pay what QPR want now he as he is free in the summer. Its not ever going to happen...some people wishing won't change it.
