Wisbech, I assume that the TV reception down your way is still 625 lines and in black and white and only available when the wind is in the right direction, as there are numerous occasions reported where this 'brigade' turns up. Whether it's counter protests that you describe or the blocking of complete streets to prevent the Border Force from removing failed asylum seekers, or some of our own politicians stating the same, there are plenty of people that don't subscribe to your view that everybody is against illegal immigration. Get a more modern TV set... You must have been watching too much GBNews. I am sure there are some who behave as you describe but then there are some who believe the world is flat. There does not appear to be any mass movement. Some argue for a more compassionate treatment and faster processing certainly. Some are concerned about the risks people are taking and the lives lost in the process. Beyond that, there are only the counter-protesters trying to show that the UK is not solely comprised of the right.

Again, you talk about those that are not a problem while ignoring those who are. No one is too concerned with people who do not damage the quality of life in Britain. Britain is a totally different place than what it was 60 years ago, and most of that is not for the better. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (16 Nov 2023 5.46pm) Problem is, this government has removed the process that allows people to seek legal refuge here, thus making every refugee an illegal. Why have they done that you might wonder? To give themselves a perceived enemy for people to focus on perhaps?

Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (16 Nov 2023 5.46pm) There will always be a minority of troublemakers. You write as though every arrival is. Deal with the real problems and don't make problems out of those who aren't. For sure we need to screen people carefully and take steps to monitor any we have concerns about. That though is the same for everybody who is already here. Britain was a totally different place in 1903 too and it will be again in 2083. Better or worse depends on your perspective. There are many things that are unarguably better though and no reason to allow anything you feel is worse not to be handled. We just need to stop moaning and being negative. Find ways to accommodate but also to insist that those who arrive do so on the understanding that they are entering our country and our culture is part of that. There are already quite strict entry requirements. The problem is not them but what to do with those who fail to meet them.

Looking at those pictures it seems they had to take very tight pictures to make it look as though there was a crowd, when there was only ever a handful. There's always some. I am surprised you read that publication. I had you down as a Daily Mail type. Just as bad but from the other extreme.

I would have thought reading both to avoid becoming an idealogue was a better suggestion but by all means stick to outlets with which you agree if that brings you comfort.

The demise of this country as somewhere pleasant to live has coincided with the rapid increase in immigrants and their offspring.

I would have thought reading either, given their well deserved reputations, was a total waste of time when more balanced coverage is known to be available. You don’t read the Mail or the Socialist Worker to actually learn anything. Have a laugh, perhaps.

If you have fallen out of love with where you live, move. Or get out more. There’s plenty of lovely places out there. Stop moaning and do something to make your own lot better. You aren’t going to change the world.
