It must be this new strain ripping through the nation. Something I read, that sounds trivial but is quite chilling in its own way is that on Yankee Candle reviews there are suddenly tonnes of reviews popping up of people angry that the candles they bought have no scent at all and sending them back. The implication being that they have mild covid, and haven't mentally made the connection. Fine for them, but its the knock on effect for others that can be tragic.

Are we now at a date where Covid hospital admissions are from infections over Christmas Eve-Boxing Day to the 27th-28th? I saw a chart this morning with cases (positive tests) falling before and during Christmas. I’d put this down to schools closing and som work places closed. The problem is snd has always been the contact with the vulnerable. This obviously happened over Christmas. People took the chance. We didn’t. Not worth it with vaccines for the elderly happening soon. I saw lots of large families walking over Christmas snd they’d obviously stayed together. Up to them but it’s a risk if any are vulnerable. In that regard anyway. Yes, the hit from Christmas is arriving, then NY eve, and I hate to say it but maybe that one day of the kids going back to primary school will have connected many thousands of 'bubbles' in such a way that will have further horrible consequences for some. If they're going to lock down they should've just done and it, and if they're not don't. This half and half crap like the previous lockdown doesn't really make a dent in it. I guess it's all academic now anyway, as the numbers are so high that I doubt anything (other than perhaps the vaccine) will get the death toll down. Edited by BlueJay (07 Jan 2021 7.33pm)

I think a lot of people in Essex and Kent have a lot of ignorant or ignorant to the possible risk while they’re either trying to do what’s right by their family or meeting up taking the chance or not giving a fook. Plus I think Surrey has a lot of boring, insipid people and timid souls not much fun for the Covid virus.

Edited by BlueJay (07 Jan 2021 7.33pm) A bit like private schools sending pupils home after 1-2 days back at school after the school skiing trip in winter/spring 2020.

Yes, I can't help but feel tonnes of people think they're being exceptionally careful while being nothing of the like. For most that might not matter, but as the days tick down to more elderly and vulnerable receiving the vaccine, the virus closing in at quite some pace along side it isn't the most comforting of thoughts. There will no doubt be many more sad stories at this time of tiny missteps costing lives.

Yes, I know it's an evolving situation but the amount of winging it and lack of foresight is unfortunate. With the government especially, I'd say that they've botched it so much in all directions and at multiple points, that no matter a persons stance, they are all agreed that we're being governed by the inept.

1.5 million vaccinated now I believe, lets hope they can ramp it up - and that mutations that can completely evade its effectiveness don't tend to get a foothold until several months to a year plus. If it's faster than that, then it's all pretty futile. But for now, considering what a bag of sh!te the death toll and shut highstreet is, let's hope it makes a significant difference. Indeedy blue, indeedy!

Test & trace is pointless when the virus exists everywhere at high levels. Germany had the tests and had an effective tracing system. But look now. Bigger Covid problem. Comparing Europe with Asia and Aus/NZ is pointless but you’ll get the same people saying you can’t compare England with Sweden. But I agree it’s been a complete waste of money and the cronyism in 2020 has been a disgrace. The government’s gamble was always lockdown and vaccinate. Only now they can’t handle vaccinating quickly either. Disgrace indeed Rudi, disgrace indeed!
