The London Ambulance Service is beyond breaking point this evening in terms of call handling.

I can see the pressure on Hospitals follow trend in the next few days.

The bad weather too. Hospitals break down every winter. Perhaps we had all forgotten. The services were overstretched well before Covid 19. That's what we should be concentrating on. Covid 19 actually has given us an opportunity to improve our infrastructure - one that we won't take. Next pandemic, just roll the dice if you're vulnerable. Check your health insurance.

I heard that you can’t turn up to A&E. You either book an appointment or call an ambulance.

I mean this in a positive way.

Ambulance staff are required to stay with their patients until the hospital accepts them. This is often 2 of their staff to 1 patient and for certain critical patients that makes sense, they can't just wander off to the next case.

However if the hospitals could organise it to release the ambulance staff for the non critical cases that would help the ambulance service. Maybe have a pool of nursing staff looking after a pool of patients.

My elderly neighbour had a bad fall it turned out she only needed stitches but the 2 very helpful ambulance staff had to wait with her for hours until she was admitted.

The LAS is a complete basket case most winters, lack of staff, overworked etc etc, and thats before covid, the reason there are so many ambulances sitting outside hospitals is it takes so long to hand over to a+e, they cant just dump and run!

Two more life-saving Covid drugs discovered

Quote
Two more life-saving drugs have been found that can cut deaths by a quarter in patients who are sickest with Covid.

The anti-inflammatory medications, given via a drip, save an extra life for every 12 treated, say researchers who have carried out a trial in NHS intensive care units.

Supplies are already available across the UK so they can be used immediately to save hundreds of lives
, say experts.

There are over 30,000 Covid patients in UK hospitals - 39% more than in April.

As well as saving more lives, the treatments speed up patients' recovery and reduce the length of time that critically-ill patients need to spend in intensive care by about a week.

Both appear to work equally well and add to the benefit already found with a cheap steroid drug called dexamethasone.

1.5 million vaccinated now I believe, lets hope they can ramp it up - and that mutations that can completely evade its effectiveness don't tend to get a foothold until several months to a year plus. If it's faster than that, then it's all pretty futile.

But for now, considering what a bag of sh!te the death toll and shut highstreet is, let's hope it makes a significant difference.

Pretty much half the people in my social life either have or have had it, including five just this week.
It’s everywhere, way, way mire then one in fifty. Many who I know who have it don’t even have symptoms and only got tested due to their jobs.

I’ve spoken to quite a few who’ve had it or people who know people who have but I don’t personally know anyone who has had it. Not one. No doubt partly where you live and who lives around you and near you.

Are we now at a date where Covid hospital admissions are from infections over Christmas Eve-Boxing Day to the 27th-28th?

I saw a chart this morning with cases (positive tests) falling before and during Christmas. I’d put this down to schools closing and som work places closed. The problem is snd has always been the contact with the vulnerable. This obviously happened over Christmas. People took the chance. We didn’t. Not worth it with vaccines for the elderly happening soon. I saw lots of large families walking over Christmas snd they’d obviously stayed together. Up to them but it’s a risk if any are vulnerable. In that regard anyway.
