Even a German expert has said we would be mad to allow travel we are just importing trouble and possibly new variant. Tell the public EU holidays not happening this summer stay at home safe and spend your money here. I say this as someone who loves to travel and is desperate to go.

That won’t be happening and if there’s a way, people will go, and more than last year after vaccinations. This wave of infections, which is really infections in the 2nd Covid season that were suppressed in recent months, won’t last through this summer. They might try until July, but by then Covid won’t be here as a seasonal virus anyway. You’ll just get everyone flocking to Turkey or whichever country in or out of the EU that breaks first.

Yeah I know draconian however I suspect what the public really want (apart from this bloody virus going away) is certainty. Last year in March I was due to fly to Indonesia for an 8k holiday. As the days counted down it became incredibly stressful as the Indonesian government started to close all the historic sights I wanted to see and Bali beach yet were still allowing people in. 4 days before were due to fly my friend and I had decided not to go as nothing would be open this meant bye bye 8k as both UK and Indonesian governments had still not banned travel. 3 days before we were due to fly both governments banned travel which activated our insurance and luckily the travel firm cancelled the holiday and refunded the money. If we had traveled the previous week we would have been stuck out there with nothing to do in a quarantine hotel. I don't want to go through that again and I suspect most people would feel the same. Unless the outlook improves people traveling abroad will be bringing the virus back and or having a lousy holiday as everything is closed. Better to bite the bullet and holiday and spend money in the UK. Britain first. Edited by Badger11 (20 Mar 2021 12.27pm)

You’re talking about crucifying the tourism industry over a minority of people stuck somewhere for 6-13 days in a season that lasts for 5-6 months usually. Tourism will be happening this summer. Maybe not in the usual volume, but it will.

For me, I don't accept the principle that the state should have this level of control over my choices. I feel that my conservative brethren have become 'cradle to grave' converts. What happens with the next virus Badger?

What happens with the next virus Badger? Hopefully we are better prepared and don't allow people to come unless they quarantine. We should have shut the airports last year. Anyway just my opinion. I have little sympathy for the tourism industry especially the airlines as they imported the problem in the first place.

Maybe we should never go anywhere ever again seeing as a variant that could evade the vaccines could pop up at any time. Maybe that’s the plan after all. And if one didn’t we’re talking about vaccines that reduce the chance of death by 80% over the small percentage chance of death in the first place. We really should stop driving or doing anything with any risk ever again. Much healthier for the human species. Edited by Rudi Hedman (20 Mar 2021 3.00pm)

Why Turkey are going to open their doors to anyone. They know it and others will too.
