Housing crisis? What housing crisis? Inventive.
Things like container homes, Prefabs, Canal Boats, Static Caravan Homes are all affordable options for everyone not just people on lower incomes. The trouble with these options currently is a lack of Permanent residential mooring/sites for boats/caravans & a the lack of money to made on Prefabs and containers for builders. Back to what you were originally getting at though, surely with schemes like this available the Housing crisis would quickly become a thing of the past if people werent so snobbish about brick built homes.

So... what have we actually established so far? 1. Selling off council houses was the most controversial Thatcherite policy 2. the Left are still a bunch of intransigent, head-in-the-sand, dogmatic nutters who should never be allowed near government 3. Teachers' pensions are gold-plated Anything else? Edited by Johnny Eagles (12 Apr 2013 10.14am)
Don't always walk the walk. I on occassion have sacrificed ethics, I would say that makes me just like anyone else. Its impossible not to, as by working I'll always be supporting a corrupt and capitalist system. Also I'm pragmatic enough to realise that simple answers to complex problems are not enough. I'm not one of those dogmatic left wingers who simply parrot the party line. Actually I'm not very left wing as a rule, left of center, but right down the anti-authoritarian spine of the graph.

What about camp sites set up out of town, with rows of huts which people could share. Plus, if they all lived in the same place, it would mean a more efficient distribution of welfare payments. You could have roll call every morning where you could hand out rations, er, I mean benefits and assign workfare tasks in exchange for the shelter provided.

I'm guessing communial showers are a central feature?

I am now back in Germany after a week or so in Blighty. The passing of Thatcher was big news over here. She was an icon for many Germans growing up (according to my colleagues). She represented values of the West (not unimportant in Germany in the 80s) like freedom and equality and the market economy. She was an inspiration to many women, being the first woman leader of a major Western nation. Say what you like about the council houses and miners' strike, she put Britain on the map like nobody else could have.

The spanish, greeks, turks, dig out mountains to build homes, its only really this country that w***s over bricks and mortar. Just to humour you though look at these images Canal Boat Container Home I dont need to post pics of Static caravan homes as im sure you've all seen them. The thing is we have x amount of people needing affordable housing, we have more people coming into the country who will also need affordable housing and we are simply no way near having enough homes to cover the demand, this is a problem that is going to get a whole lot worse. All the types of homes ive listed can be built plumbed, connected to the mains, furnished and habitable within hours to a couple of days for a fraction of the cost & time to built a brick built home. Hardly Auschwitz... Edited by Ouzo Dan (12 Apr 2013 12.41pm)
