... and the tabloids would be running the country. They do already don't they? After all, it's them who decide who gets elected.

eddie - it was an anti war march - not a pro saddam march. if we bombed every country we have sold arms too to kill one lot of people, then they later on use them on other people which we then disagree on then where would it end? and thats if you believe this war is going to be on moral grounds and nothing to do with oil or anything....

Bexter - You seem more than happy to help the victims of people like Saddam when they turn up on our doorstep seeking asylum. Yet when it comes to helping them on there own turf, where they are powerless to do anything, you turn a blind eye.

maybe i don't think bombing their homes is the answer? do you think we should bomb every country who has an unsavoury leader just out of interest? Edited by Bexter (18 Feb 2003 2:57pm)

as for a referendum, its true we give a mandate to a government when we elect them to run our country, but when it comes to a war that no one wants which will cost lives - our troops and iraqi citizens, when there is no evidence of any threat - then democracy has failed - it veers on dictatorship when one man makes such a decision with no backing from his people..
If we were living under a dictatorship you would not have had the freedom to march on Saturday. It's great that we do live under a system where people are free to express their opinions openly, and I believe that the government ARE listening, after all Tony Blair's political future hangs on what he does next. But at the end of the day leadership is about making decisions based on all the evidence in front of you and clearly he (and Ian Duncan Smith) believe that there is a strong case for military action.

How come only they've got this evidence then? what about France and Germany? and of course I know I am lucky I could march - still don't understand what that has to do with bombing another country that doesn't allow its citizens too - we'd be bombing the hell out of alot of countries! and while we are on the lack of informing us about what is going on - how about all these security threats? if they can see a threat then i would like to see it too as i work in central london thanks! I mean, they must have evidence else they wouldn't be deploying tanks at heathrow would they? I understand that they have to be careful with intelligence etc but by saying there is no specific threat they are either lying or deploying tanks for no good reason, or to make a stronger case for war.... who knows? a bit of honesty wouldn't go a miss at this stage.

Edited by Bexter (18 Feb 2003 2:57pm) Of course not that would be insane. Out of interest do you think Saddam should be aloud to carry on in the manor he does? If not what would you do to solve the problem? I don't think weapons inspectors is really working. Do you? He clearly poses a serious threat to not only his own people but his neighbouring countries aswell.

and how can the weapons inspectors do their job when they are not being given the time they need and want? they have produced absolutely no evidence of any 'threat' but i am all for them having more time to find out before we go wading in.

I'm glad to see it's finally being admitted on here that there is no credible evidence to back up the US claims... which makes me wonder why so many of you are convinced war is the right move? Is there some evidence you've seen that I haven't? Or is it just that you don't really understand just how horrific war is, and have bought into the sanitised version presented to us by the US? Just curious.

Surely if MI5 and MI6 publish all their intelligence it kind of stops being intelligence doesn't it? I'm sure Saddam would welcome that, not sure about those working under cover in the region though. Yes war is a nasty business, so is being taken from your home and tortured, so is being attacked with mustard gas, so is seeing your kids pistol whipped, I'm told Anthrax can give you a nasty cough too. As for Israel, the USA needs to get it's head out of it's arse, stop funding those f***ers and treat them with the condemnation they deserve.
