With Sheffield United visiting tomorrow, McGhee shows the squad "The Full Monty" to inspire the players to overcome difficult situations and win through. On the practice pitch, a confused Alexandre Frutos starts a strip-tease routine. "But I do it just like on the tape, yes? I am finding the football of the English to be difficult."

13/09/2005

Brighton suffered a respectable 0-1 home defeat to league leaders Sheffield United, though consolation came in the form of Guy Butter's heroic goal-line block which he celebrated with a lap of honour.
"I told the lads I expected us to show steel." said McGhee in a poor pun on Sheffield's industrial past. "Instead they were more like tin foil. I don't like tin foil. Sometimes I accidentally eat a bit of it when the missus uses it to wrap my sandwiches. What's wrong with a paper bag? Exactly. That's what I told the lads, and I'm sure they'll take it on board."

14/09/2005

McGhee takes the first team squad to the beach for a 6am jog, after their defeat yesterday. The players are a little disheartened as Alexandre Frutos, Sebastien Carole and Florent Chaigneau stare out across the channel and weep for their homeland and the glories of second division French football.

15/09/2005

McGhee appeared on Sara Gorell's BBC Brighton breakfast show. When asked whether he would change his squad for the Coventry game on Saturday, McGhee replied that if it wasn't broken, don't fix it. When reminded that the team lost to Sheffield, he stated that sometime broken things fix themselves if you just leave them alone. "Just look at my wife," he stated. "We've been together for 22 years, and that's not because I pay her any attention, I can tell you."

On loan Aston Villa keeper Wayne Henderson and Leon Knight both celebrate their birthday today, with Henderson taking Knight and Kerry Mayo to his home town of Birmingham.
Knight's girlfriend, Miss Brighton 2005 winner Tamatha Pebbles, is rumoured to have stormed out of the Wetherspoons, complaining that no-one from Birmingham seems to speak English. Henderson apparently tried to explain it was just an accent, when he and Mayo were attacked by irate Villa fans after a drunken Knight climbed on top of the table, yelling "Vassell's got nuffink on me innit".
Knight is fined 2 weeks wages for breaking curfew, whilst Henderson's injuries rule him out of tomorrow's squad.

17/09/2005

Brighton bounced back in a stunning 2-2 home draw with Coventry. Kazim-Richards, "The Coca-Cola Kid", scored his first goal of the season, whilst on-loan Man U star Paul McShane showed his Premiership quality with a brilliantly taken own goal.
"I'm delighted," said McGhee. "People told me you can't get decent players from a special offer on the back of a Coke bottle, but Kazim-Richards has proved them wrong. And as soon as we point Paul McShane in the right direction, we'll definitely start moving forward."
"We've shown we can compete with the Leicesters and Coventrys in this division. It's a shame there's only one of each, really, or we might have a hope of going up."

18/09/2005

Ex-manager Micky Adams today announced he would attend Brighton's march on the Labour Party conference demanding planning permission for the new stadium.
"It's a disgrace," said Adams. "People say it's only a small club but it's not, it's a big, big club: the biggest this side of Worthing. The current ground can only hold 6,500, and sometimes we even get close to filling it."

McGhee agreed with Adams' comments. "If people think they won't be able to get seats, they won't come. You only have to come to one of our games to see the proof of that."
