Set pieces at both ends are just woeful. No one else allows a keeper to catch the ball, run to the edge of his area and throw it to launch a counter, someone takes a card. Has Ahamada ever played wingback before? Was there a left wingback on the bench? Why was Hughes playing in the 10 position when we have Eze for that and we have França, Ebiowei or Ahamada that can play wide? How is it that 21 games into the season with such a thin squad, that we still don't know if any of the youngsters are actually good enough to play in this division.
You shine in the U21's the only thing left is to be given a chance in the 1st team, except at Palace where your reward is the honour of sitting on the bench with no chance of minutes. They're being Meyered by Roy and like the German it will damage them all in my opinion.

Totally agree.
Start with the younger and see what they can do. Probably, more energy and enthusiasm.

TBF, even before he came to us, opinions about MM's abilities were - let's say - divided. So the damage Roy did in this case might have been limited.

No, it’s spot on.

Your previous one was though. So inept it spoke for itself and needed no answer.

I fell into the Hodgson out camp yesterday.

I wrote on the Parish out thread recently about being realistic with our ambitions given our income vs other teams. I still stand by that.

What is alarming for me is the continuing coaching issues.

1) Set Pieces. At Premier League level, if you're doing well or poorly it's simply a matter of coaching. We have international goalkeepers, international centre halves. Arsenal yesterday demonstrated what can happen when everyone has a job against a team where no-one has a job. Our net goals from set piece this season must be appalling.

2) Goals scored. Sod the injuries - Luton have now scored more than us this season. We have failed to score in 40% of our home games this season, only Everton and Burnley are worse. In Everton's defence, after their first 3 games they've only failed to score in the United defeat and a 0-0 draw with Villa.

3) General work rate. Hughes floats that crap cross into Raya's hands yesterday and the lack of movement is astounding. When Raya catches it, freeze it. Schlupp is staring at him dejected, with Trossard next to him. When Raya releases the ball, Schlupp is still staring at the Arsenal goal, Trossard is 35 yards up the pitch in a full blown sprint. He scores. Odegaard, who was also next to Schlupp, is next in line to score.

As Jesus gets the ball, Schlupp finally turns around. Turns out he was waiting to console Andersen who ALSO hadn't moved because he was squaring off with Rice.

That's sod all to do with the board. Everton, Luton, Wolves... they don't concede that goal. Their managers demand a work rate that means that doesn't happen.

4) Bringing on Tomkins to play alongside Ahamada against a fresh Martinelli? Give me a break. I have no idea what the point of that was but it turned a bad defeat into an embarrassment and may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. That decision got exactly what it deserved. Had we played another 5 minutes God knows how many he'd have scored.

We've conceded 5 awful goals. Poor set piece work, poor transition and work rate, poor in game management. None of that has anything whatsoever to do with finances and player quality. That is all coaching. Even worse, it's meant to be Hodgson's strengths. If he isn't delivering the goals, AND isn't delivering defensive stability ... what's he offering?

Andersen gave up a loooong time ago. I've been watching closely this season, how frequently you see him stop running and just let the inevitable happen when an opposition player is closing in on goal. He clearly feels overworked and probably sick of having to continually cover for the likes of Ward and other players who aren't up to it. Heads out the door, wishes he left last season and hadn't drank from Parish's snake oil.

The more I think on it the more I feel so sorry for Roy. He's been let down big time. I really wish he called it a day last season and left a hero.

I really do feel the rot set in this time last year I sensed something different at the spurs 4-0 home defeat and the Southampton FA cup 2-1 defeat. It's been all downhill since the world cup. We had a purple patch at the end of last season but that was it.

Silence used to be golden, Steve P, but not in this case. What is going on in the club? Manager? New players? Or are we hoping for a miracle, like Forest and Everton jailed for unfair play and deducted 10 & 20 points?

I reckon he wants Roy to either go or have a moment of contemplation where by he realises you cannot 0-0 every game. Our squad is not in the bottom 3 for quality but it’s in the bottom 1 for entertainment. This falls at the door of the manager. Where is the proof that we can’t play more adventurous stuff without losing every game!

Completely agree with all of that. If you players aren't showing the right level of concentration and enthusiasm its the managers fault.

And the Tomkins decision. Wow. Genuinely one of the most absurd subs I've ever seen.

This is a red herring. He doesn’t play new signings generally. The only layer that comes to mind that he would actually play is Craig Dawson. In midfield obviously.
