A deal of naivety as to how things are done. You have serious money bag clubs who will pay whatever is required to get their new ground and a considerably smaller club trying (more or less successfully) to run it sustainably in the most expensive league on earth. Thus, for arsenal an extortionate ransom strip - pay em off. The authority impose outrageous 106 conditions - whatever. We lack the financial clout but have the corporate principles not to tolerate what others accept. You must decide whether you support a club that is bound to its convictions or one so rich they can afford not to have them.

I’d be interested to know in our case how much the extortionate ransom strip was and also the cost of the outrageous section 106 conditions because for those barriers alone, I would be very surprised if they came to more than the cost of one extremely average player.

Under old build (pre covid) prices we could probably have built a new stand with the money we have just spent on an untried youngster, an Arsenal reject and a goalkeeper that we didn’t really need along with the supposed £50m that was already ring fenced. Unfortunately, I reckon that ship has sailed and if the new stand doesn’t get built it’s because the original budget cost has probably more than doubled and it may now be unaffordable.

So, in my opinion we have shot ourselves in the foot by delaying and delaying. I don’t believe the negotiations with Sainsburys and the Council were as difficult as they have been portrayed. They were after all just property deals and there is always a work around. If the new stand (as was being mooted at the time), was going to be the real impetus to the club moving forward then it appears on the face of it that Parish has failed, although we continue to be told it’s going ahead at the end of the season, so for now it’s a case of wait and see.

If it doesn’t go ahead we will be in a poor position as the main stand and the Arthur are truly awful and I’m not sure how the works required are going to be funded in the future.

It most also be said that Brighton are 500/600 million pound in debt to bloom.

He offsets must of the losses they have make. Now some would say this is a good owner but football must be the only business in the world were operating this way is deemed 'best run club etc' - any other industry operates this would be horrendous and a car crash.

Fair play to them, still cant stand them though.

Utd have also been dealt with an injury blow.

Maguire has recovered from his.

Now a certainty he'll head in the winner for them!

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

Not sure how Brighton can be in debt to Bloom. He owns the club therefore any debt is his own which actually puts them in a good position because he basically owes himself money, so all the time he doesn’t care about the club owing him money they are in a decent position. If someone wants to buy them out then they will have to pay his debt.

They are in many ways better off than many other so called debt laden clubs.

To take your later point I would imagine that his losses here are more than offset by gains elsewhere in his business empire.

Along with Luton, they’re probably the biggest overachievers in the country currently.

Well run operation, excellent recruitment strategy with a seeming conveyor belt of good players meaning they are not reluctant to sell their best players as they already have a replacement.

Annoyingly they are our rivals. Best to focus on ourselves, we’re also punching above our weight by gradually becoming a competitive and established PL club. Let them have their day. It’s taken them about 50 years to get ahead of us.

Sorry but how do you measure overachievement? Do you have a list of where every club should be placed and then compare it to their actual status? In your opinion, where should Brighton be placed ie what should be their current level of achievement, and how do you reach that conclusion? While you are at it, where do you think we should be compared to where we are, and why?

Villa are playing very well at the moment, I fully expect them to fill one of the lower Euro spots this season.

Quite simply, the club is a company. One of Bloom's other companies loans them money. The club is then in debt for the loans. Not much money, if any, is given freely by any owners. They recoup when they sell enough players or sell up altogether, Or when the loan is paid off.
Our finances are similar. The directors or companies have loaned money. Last I looked we owed around 70 mil in loans. Presumably more now.
