One thing we had under Roy, that is sadly missing at the moment is that ‘Palace spirit’.
Having him back on the long term is clearly a backward step, but to see us through this season……..absolutely the right decision in my view.
But then……..what do I know? I’ve only supported Palace for 65 years.

We might have passed each other sometime over the years,Laurie, as I've been supporting Palace even longer.
I can remember when we could park on the steet close to the ground!
Bringing back Roy will surely destroy anything that is left of the 'Palace spirit'.
His last reign featured some of the most tedious football we've ever had to pay to watch.
The appointment of Vieira was a real fillip and with Olise, Eze and Anderson we could hope for an exciting future.
Now what can we hope for?
Our relegation rivals will see we're a mess and will be confident of points when they play us.
The best we can hope for are a couple of goalless draws.
I am too old for all this grief!

Hmm that must be what my wife is aswell ,

My take is that the club had no issue with PV but the coaching staff attached to him…..its been pretty clear to me that we are one of the most unfit teams in the Premiership and have been all year. If PV won’t sack his coaching team if they are not cutting it then I am afraid he needs to go too……

The choice is made, Roy H. returns to the dugout. Stop whining and slinging, get behind the lads and really prove we are the best fans in the land.

Did Steve Parish consider Private Frazer from 'Dad's Army'? Good attacking spirit but, I suppose, a bit on the young side.

Of course this begs the question: how will the players react to this news? I know they are paid professionals etc etc, but there must be some amazement / disquiet there surely?
Watford were as bad as we are now, Roy couldn't save them. Just getting the players up to adequate fitness levels is a task beyond reach in such a short space of time.
Perhaps it's all preparation for life in the Championship.

Erm …. I don’t know how to break this and I don’t want to worry anyone but I’ve just seen a source on twitter that is normally quite reliable and a good lad that Wayne Hennessy is on an emergency loan …. That really will put the cherry on cake if true

This was only going to happen if we got Adolf Hutter as manager

To see Roy in the dugout again will be a surreal experience. I was a big supporter during his time here, but he now feels outdated in his style and manner.

The sad fact is that Patrick, after making such an impressive start, lost his way and his impact diminished. But at this point in the season I have no quarrel with the decision to wave him goodbye and, because there are so few games left there is a lot of sense in bringing Roy back to guide us through the remaining games before appointing a fresh management team in the summer.

The caveat I attach to my thinking is that Paddy should work alongside Roy as his sidekick and future successor. At least we get to keep it in the family. BTW is Lewington in the frame too?

Anyway, to bring in an alien at this late stage would be too risky, so we have to accept the direction in which we're heading and give our club the biggest, loudest support we can to help retain our cherished PL status.

Good luck Roy - you're gonna need it!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Makes a lot of sense for me and gives the club a good amount of time to do due diligence on finding our next manager.

Roy is going to have a better squad than the one he left with.

What I enjoy about this site is everybody is entitled to their own opinion. This is mine…

Firstly, I’m not at all happy about the sacking of PV - but as others have said, there seems to be more to this than meets the eye. We will never know!

Yes…under the circumstances, appointing Roy is definitely the right thing to do.
He knows the club, the players, the way things work at CP. It will allow McCarthy to work alongside an experienced manager - and who knows what that might lead to.

The bigger picture cannot be solved until we know what division we are playing in next season. At that point, a new manager will have a proper pre-season to set out his expectations, add to the squad and build from there.

I for one will be backing Roy and the team against Leicester……let’s rekindle the Selhurst spirit.

I agree with this post, having Roy and Ray back is the most sensible options with just 10 games to go, hopefully he can hit the ground running and he will be able to save us!

come on Palace!!!
