Yes and all those clubs have spotted that they need to strengthen their squads and intend to try and so this window. Not every player will be a success of course.

SP just seems complacent in that we have points in the bag and we might get a couple of loan deals in, but that will be it. Could mean we get nothing in. Can't see Gallagher or AWB coming back. but imagine that's what he's pinning our hopes on.

Very cynical, but I think that's our story a lot of the time. The positive is the club execs have taken drastic action when needed which has seen us stay afloat. The negative is that when we are not in the proverbial the desire to kick on further from the fans is not quite matched by the club who seem to be playing it safe financially.

At a poor attempt to be sage, that is probably the best course of action in case things really do get sticky. Problem is as a fan you always want to see progression and ultimately success of course. The other side is we only really get two chances to take any action and as things stand now we might look 'OK' and therefore no need to panic however of course we always fear that could go south pretty quickly and the ship for action has sailed.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

IF we go down and I believe there are enough teams below us to stop us dropping then SP will be very worried as our money paid out next season will be below our money coming in. SP will over the next few weeks fund enough for the type of players to keep us up. I think that we have enough points to stay up and we may well call back if allowed Killian Phillips maybe.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

What puzzles me is the talk of the £1bn income over the 10 PL seasons. If my maths is correct that is £100m per season. What was it spent on?

There you are. I do recall a recent chart that had us in the top 30 or whatever highest spent on wages. A board decision that means we can't go forward, or back. Stuck until the inevitable.

Some was paid as dividends to Directors, no doubt.

When you think about it, a CEO of a company gets a 10 year contract worth 1 billion - after that time, what's he got to show for it?

I don't think we have been well run.

I feel we need to reboot this summer, strip it all back, view it as a promotion to the prem and start fresh. Have a plan, an ethos, and move forward all on same page. All we are doing is wading in the water - clubs around us, their fans, bet not one is jealous of us... yeah we managed to snap up a couple tasty players, but what does it mean if they don't gel and work out?

Nor do I. Thinking back to Pulis' time, when this money was just a dream, I can't see that this current team is any better or more motivated than the players he managed an extremely creditable 11th place finish with.
We have planning permission, we have an academy, we've had some overpaid big time charlies, and a cup final. Other than that, we are no better off than when Pulis was manager.

When Tony Pulis was appointed, we were second from bottom after 12 games.
As has been stated we finished that season in 11th place.

The Pulis team was far worse and should probably have been a championship side. However, he concentrated on defensive solidity, team ethic and set pieces. As for the first two - we haven't got those. We look like we've just started to work on set pieces - about five seasons too late.
First thing any team wanting to avoid relegation needs to do is be defensively solid. We look weak. Second thing is to score goals. Pulis noted we probably wouldn't score many and I believe we topped the set piece goal statistics (or were second after Liverpool). We're usually near the bottom now and we still don't score goals. We also concede a lot from set pieces - which certainly would not have happened under Pulis.
For an analogy, we're a team with some BMWs and a couple of Lambos when, in reality, we need Skoda Yetis for our environment.
We play like a top side, rather than being pragmatic about what we have. However, let's say PV was fed up with our team basically being a bit weak? Who would he pick? It would be Tomkins, Luka maybe Hughes. Hardly game changing stuff. We have little choice but to carry on as we do with our current personnel.
