Have to say i was shock that Erickson, who is not the quickest, overtook him so quickly. Even at the end despite a brilliant tackle by AWB he looked slow chasing that ball.

On the converse Olise and Eze are still very inconsistent and go missing for large periods of games, so Wilf is still an important player for us.

I have said for about 3 years now he will go when his contract runs out and i haven't changed my opinion.

He was injured. Had his knee strapped up after half-time. Would not be surprised if he does not play Saturday

Eriksen was the player on the pitch I'd have most wanted Zaha to be one on one against. Watching Eriksen keep up with him, and get across him, was like watching the end of an era.

His close control and ability in small spaces is still very good but he's definitely lost a yard of pace in going past players and Wednesday looked like he'd lost another one - might just be an injury causing that.

I can't see Palace and Zaha being in a position in September where both are happy. If anything, I can see both being unhappy. Likely scenario looks like Wilf goes on a free and probably not to the heights he's hoping for. On the bright side, if he does go somewhere right at the top and gets game time, it'll mean he has a bloody good next few months so that's something to look forward to.

If he'd been sold a couple of years back, we'd be a couple of years into playing in the Championship again - I know hypothetically we invest that money and build a super team, but in reality, no amount of money would have given us access to a player of Wilf's quality in the final third, which is the hardest and most expensive part of a team for clubs our size to fill.

The reason we were much more willing to move on AWB is simply we don't need a £50m RB. A match-winner at the attacking end of the pitch however... invaluable and irreplaceable for our club our size.

I think our reliance on Wilf over the past few seasons is really understated by a lot of our fan base. No doubt we're seeing his powers declining, but I think he's still consistently our most dangerous player, our best finisher, and a bloke who clearly gets the club.

Pay him what he wants and build the statue.

Great post absolutely spot on IMO

All the time there is the sell on fee it has made little sense to sell Wilf as at his peak you couldn’t get close to a player of his stature with the sales receipt.

You also have to take into account that it’s never been proven that we have had a large bid for him anyway. Possibly the only time was when Arsenal paid 70m? for Pepe and it was being banded around that Palace wanted similar but up front and not on the never never which is why they ultimately chose Pepe. Even that is just a story so not sure it was true.

I suppose in reality he has always been worth far more to us than anyone else and now he is getting to the end of his career I personally have no problem with him disappearing on a free at the end of the season. He has done his bit for CPFC and I reckon we’ve already been rewarded with the best he has to offer.

By the end of this season we need to be looking at Olise and Eze to step up and carry more responsibility out wide. They certainly have the ability to do so and it may be the time to concentrate on a new system and improving our personnel in the centre of midfield rather than buying new wingers.

It also shouldn’t be forgotten that getting Wilf’s salary off the books frees up sufficient for a couple of very decent players wages.

But which large English club would want him as the big boys all seem to be signing up younger wingers at the moment leaving European clubs as his best option

Exactly Chelsea have just signed a second winger Noni Madueke whilst Arsenal have signed Trossard.

I'm afraid all the noise about Zaha is being generated by his agent.

Trossard to Arsenal is I think a telling blow to Wilf’s hopes of going there.

I think he’ll end up with big cash offers at seasons end from Arab or Turkish leagues, but I can’t see him going to any of the top English teams, nor the traditional European big hitters.
