My point is that to start as woefully as we did against better sides than Leeds and it will already be over by the second half. We finished well and that is a good sign, hopefully they can go and find a bit of consistency in the next few games.

Fair point. I was looking at it from a different perspective. My concern, this season and last, is that we don't control the end of the game very well. We often let go of what we've earned far too easily. I was pleased to see that wasn't the case today.

Two positives from that half...

1) somehow we're not losing
2) surely we can't get any worse!

Guaita's kicking this season has been absolutely awful and he's a bit lucky not to have a few embarrassing goals against him. Still a great shot stopper, but he is making me nervous these days.

Olise and Eze are not physical or aggressive players and they're struggling against Leeds. If Ayew is not 100% after the head injury then maybe bring Hughes on to add a bit of bite.

I think that first half was Leeds at their best and us at our worst, so if Vieira can do something to change things up we can still win this...but if we play like the first half I'll happily take a draw now!

It dosent help when they are both playing out of position

Basically, we are not getting the best performances from the players we have, PVs two numbers 8s and a number 6s is ok if you have two numbers 8s, but we dont have any, we have one number 10, and 4 number 6s, so play 4-2-3-1, it's not rocket science

We really struggle against an energetic high pressing team but once they ran out of steam we took control. One thing is clear we desperately need a strong partner for Doucoure

Eze and Olise are great going forward but their defensive attributes are "average" at best. Would have preferred using Hughes to partner Doucoure or drop Ayew back to act as a second holding midfielder. We are a bit slow playing out from the back which gave Leeds plenty of time to regroup and press us in our half.

I agree with you about the formation.

Just when teams used to play 1-11 nos4 and 8 were the midfielders and no. 6 used to mainly be the centre back with no. 5.

Eze’s great balance and his understanding of his body weight + his ability to drop his shoulder at last second and wrong foot opponent’s is true class. It’s all part of the same brilliant package he has.

A well worked victory. Leeds gave us absolutely no space in the first half nullifying our attempts to attack. Our defence kept us in it. The second half they dropped their intensity and our play began to blossom. The flair players came into their own in the second half , a thoroughly deserved in the end. COYP

I don't think Vieira will move to two holding midfield players despite the argument that it may well suit our current players better and lead to a more balanced team.
Doucoure is a good footballer but Leeds pressed him aggressively today and we couldn't get going in the first half.
Similarly Eze and Olise couldn't get on the ball and our midfield was neutralised. In fact Vieira reacted by moving Olise to the right and shifting Ayew inside where he helped disrupt Leeds rhythm.
We're playing Leicester next week and they tend to dominate possession and have good technical players despite their lowly position.
I hope we don't face them with a midfield of Olise, Eze and Doucoure as we would run the risk of never seeing the ball.
We have to be able to compete to allow our skilful players express themselves.

It will be interesting to see how McArthur plays with Doucare once he returns. Maybe that will give us more midfield strength.

A very important 3pts today. Could have been out of sight after 25mins but we hung in there and then were the better team for the remainder of the match. We threw in the odd suicidal moment but I was very pleased to see how we saw out the game.

Lovely goal from Eze and the 3pts gives us a little breathing space and reduces the pressure a little on the upcoming games where we can hope to pick up more points.

Thought PV got the subs right today. Well done lads.

We got a few late links to CMs in the transfer window e.g Soumare from Leicester, fella from Frankfurt... it'd be nice to get someone in January who'd help reduce the workload of Doucouré.

Last point, as I often berate the officials, I thought the ref today had a very good game.

We got away with it big style today. Luckily we were not up against a decent side and Leeds weren't good enough to take advantage of our shambolic start, though their starting Bumfluff helped.
Macarthur is a big loss currently and I am not sure Eze, Olise and Wilf can play together as they can get muscled out of and don't offer as much defensively when necessary.
On another day we may have had Doucoure sent off for two yellows. Clearly there are players PV doesn't trust - is Luka really the best option to replace Doucoure ??
The current situation comes as a result of a lack of depth and a poor summer window - we can only hope for a better winter one.
