There was a point at 2:1 where it occurred to me that it was a very Patrick Vieira 2021/2022 performance. Ie, be the better side, make lots of chances, but only have a 1 goal lead and eventually concede around 88 minutes.

Thankfully, we got the third goal.

They did still hit the bar, and had a real chance with a header at the end.

I think they're a bit s***. But that first 20 minutes was end to end. We are going to have some exciting games, that is for sure.

Currently we're tenth. This would be the ideal minimum finish, but we really do need more depth in the squad, especially now teams can replace half their outfield.

Eze and Zaha were f***ing good today. I think Zaha is joint top scorer in the league. This will be Wilf's best ever season with Palace.

Yep Q I thought that at halftime!!

Agree with everything you said there though. I was immensely proud of all of them today after they scored. Defence supreme, Ward looks like a totally new player, Mitchell looked every bit a top quality left back, centre two superb, midfield went well above my expectations, Ayew poorly spurned a chance in first 5 but was immense, little let down by Edouard but small fry right now, JPM took his time, almost a full three minutes he took to score and just when you thought you couldn’t love WZ any more. Eze looked very good today, was worried about them but he mocked that Villa team on numerous occasions. I’ve never seen a Palace team like this in my 3 and a bit decades, I was very impressed. Agree AV were poor though and you heard it hear first, MAN U in a bid to avoid the drop will sign free agents Lampard and Gerrard in January to bolster midfield

COYP!!!!!

It’s nice to look forward to MoTD!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Just to point out the aggregate score against Villa today was 7-1.

The Under 18s won 4-0 against them this morning!

Just saw the highlights on the website.

I usually don't have a problem with VAR calling offside. The rule is the rule.

What I do have a problem with is that the line was drawn where the defender's foot was, and Edouard's shoulder was offside. However, the defender's shoulder was about the same position as his.

Maybe I don't know the offside rule as much as I thought I did, but surely if the attacker is ruled offside because of a shoulder (which he can score from), then the defender's shoulder is where it should be marked.

Maybe that isn't the rule, but it seems unfair.

The future looks promising. Pat has created a well organised and slick passing team. He easily won the tactical battle against Gerrard. And what a cultured player Eze is.

Daddyorc -
I think I am in the same club - there seem to have been so many "tweaks" in recent times to offside & handball rules & how / when VAR is used I am out of touch - a game that I used to think I knew & understood now has many strange decisions happening & I no longer know if those strange decisions are in line with new rules or just crap officiating.

If it takes them that long to decide it was off side then they are trying too hard. It should have stood as a goal. I think they gave us the penalty to even it out. As for our third that was world class….

I think there's a lot in what you say there Gary - both the disallowed goal & the penalty decision took an awful long time to be decided -I felt at the time that there was some balancing out going on - I was talking to a Villa supporter on the way back to Norwood Junction - he was saying that him & most around him would have had no beef if the offside goal had stood but the penalty not been given, they felt they were short-changed over the penalty -

I agree with another poster VAR should be based on the torso not any other body part (just like athletics). If you are a striker facing goal it is more likely that your arms and feet will be forward so the advantage is with the defending team.

Wilf has a goal ruled out because him or another palace player had an arm offside.

VAR has become like the old refereeing decisions, you hope they balance themselves out over the course of the season. Villa will feel really aggrieved with the penalty decision, and I'm we sure we would if it gone against us. I remember a couple of seasons we had a pen given against us by VAR in a game against Everton when calvert-lewin literally headed the ball against Wards arm, he did even move his arm.
