Only Crouch has scored more headers in the Premier League era. We, for one, would struggle to defend against him with our deficiencies in that area. However that hasn't been our style of play for years - both Townsend and Zaha, and now Olise and Zaha, want to cut in rather than get to the by-line. His hold up play is under-rated - the touch for Zaha's first goal on Saturday a nice example. We spent years under Hodgson wanting him to run the channels and the phrase horses for courses comes to mind. Oddly, Wolves put in the 3rd fewest crosses in the league last season. Given it's the last year of his contract, if we can get a rumoured £10m then it's good business. It'll be interesting to see if we look to replace with the alternative likely being that Plange hangs around for the year. I agree with the above, although would also add that it's kind of gone beyond it. Too much water under the bridge now, even if we played to his strengths there is just too much historical baggage with him now. Selling suits both parties and with a fresh start he could excel. I also suspect that him leaving opens the door for Matheus Nascimento joining.

No doubt CB brings some qualities to the front line (and defence under Roy) but sadly a goal scorer who rarely scores holds limited appeal for me. Let’s face it, most strikers we let go come back to haunt us and CB is probably going to be no different, but purely from an economic perspective £10million quid is crazy money for him.

That sums it up nicely for me. Seriously though, if Wolves pay £10 million that would be great business and we might be in a position to buy a new forward that better suits our style (i.e. hard working!) Like Ambrose, I have a little more respect for Benteke than many others on here. I thought he started last season well, and was then just phased out of the team. However, I can't believe we'd get £10m for him, and I'm amazed Wolves want him.

I respect your opinion, But i think he is a square peg in a round hole, but there are not many round holes, i think Burnley where the last round hole.

Ireland under Jack Charlton would have suited him. I still can’t get my head around how he has got so bad with the ball at his feet. I have spent too many years praying and wishing him to come good but sadly he is finished at this level. Edited by EddieMac (25 Jul 2022 9.10pm)

Edited by EddieMac (25 Jul 2022 9.10pm) The lovely lay off for Wilf's screamer against QPR wasn't too bad with his feet. He's a confidence player. When you get 4 minutes at the end of the game, if a chance comes your way, you almost want to score too much instead of doing what comes naturally. When he's loved and wanted (Villa and first season with us), scoring comes naturally to him. When he's in and out the team getting a few minutes here and there, he tries too hard to impress and fudges things. That's my observation anyway.

Watching him over the years, I’ve come to the conclusion that his leg speed is his major problem. Not just running speed but how quickly his leg pulls back and fires off a shot. It’s massively mechanical and ponderous and allows defenders to ‘pick his pocket’ These fractions of seconds count at this level. Secondly he’s not good at finding the net to the side of keeper. No little glance up a nano second before he shots to place ball in corner of net. He was always a blast it in the general direction and ‘hope for best’ merchant. Anyway…good luck to him. Like the way this Edu fellow in Arsenal is thinking. Would not Freedman & Parish followed this path when it comes to our Belgian striker.

I think the main reason(s) that we renewed CB contract was that he was pretty much our first big name signing & we continued to be hopeful that he would once again come good, indeed that game against Liverpool (first game of the season couple years back) he looked really up for it, he produced a marvellous overhead kick that hit the joint at the post / crossbar, if that had gone it would have done wonders for his confidence, but it didn't & the rest as they say is history, also I think to a fair degree we weren't ready to have him run down his contract & see him walk out the door on a free. Jimenez has done his knee, out for a considerable number of weeks. S**t or get off the toilet time for Wolves - if they're interested this will move fast. An end of August transfer would have Jimenez halfway to being back.
