Thought Everton played reasonably well today and had a few chances. They defended well, especially the first half and frustrated Liverpool. If they play like that against the lesser teams I can see them getting 9 points or more in the remaining games. The same with Burnley. Us and a few teams around us need a few more points yet and I’ve seen teams fall before at this stage of the season. Not losing tomorrow is important for us. Indeed. As it also is for Leeds.

Everton had 17% of the play. They had some decent chances on the break and defended well. Even a couple of penalty shouts that perhaps if it was the other way around May had been given? I’ve seen us under Hodgson with that percentage of play and winning. Anyway, thankfully Liverpool won :-)

If anyone is seriously worried about our chances, I see on Oddschecker that virtually all the major bookies are offering 250-1 against us going down. In my experience, bookies don’t give money away. To be fair a week and a half ago after beating Arsenal we were 2500/1 and now 250/1 so a massive cut in price , however I do understand being in the bookie game myself that it is an outside chance yet outside chances win everyday in different sports……

Given our current points total and our goal difference it’s not very likely that we will be relegated but it is possible so until we are mathematically safe I shall worry, as I do every season. I will be more than happy with a point tonight as a couple more draws will be enough. We definitely don’t want to go into the Southampton game looking over our shoulder.

Two league defeats in succession for us, Burnley attaining an unexpected 7 pts from 3 games and it appears that there is a degree of unease amongst our support base.

A poor performance this evening and maybe no points would certainly make me a little nervous.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

A win tonight will take us to the 40 point mark and supporters have a proclivity to relax when their teams have attained this figure. We are 8 pts clear of the team in 18th place. It's such a strange season, as with the fixtures left you feel we really could end up anywhere from 9th to 18th. Overall I think we should be nearer the top end of that than the bottom (with relegation requiring a complete collapse), but it could all depend on how focused the players can remain. Aside from Man Utd all our games are against the teams around us, so if we can't get at least three points from our remaining games then we'd deserve to go down. Personally I think we'll get a couple more wins and maybe a couple of draws and call it a respectable season and a good base to grow from. Nothing would surprise me though.
