Saudi bomb the F out of Yemen for years but can buy Newcastle .. RA wants to sell and publicly says all proceeds will go to the victims of the Ukraine war .. we all love government double standards .. after accepting years of Russian £ the government is corrupt as they come, nice to wait 3 weeks so the London Russians can move their £ offshore before imposing sanctions.

Your pretty daft if you think Abramovich’s statement was genuine... it was a definite attempt to avoid sanctions, which thankfully he hasn’t ... it’s all over for Chelsea and they have to face up it, no more endless supplies of corrupt money...

In all honesty I wouldn't celebrate Chelsea going out of business. Although it would be funny in many ways, deep down I wouldn't wish that on another club. No, not even Brighton. So if there's some way for the club to be sold/transferred without the money going to the current owner or any of his or Putin's cronies, then that would do me. Then hopefully the club would be operated in future in a more sustainable and ethical way. Excellent post, completely agree

NATO could definitely So not the UK government then, in which case I don't understand your original post comparing "making Chelsea a bit s***" (an action of the UK government) to "imposing a no-fly zone" (which NATO might be able to do, at the risk of prompting a nuclear war, and which in any case would need the agreement of all of its member states).

There is absolutely no way the government would let a club of Chelsea’s stature go out businesses. They pay millions in taxes and employ hundreds of people, stewards, shop assistants, hotel staff, security, admin, etc, etc. Anyway they have frozen Abrahamovic’s assets not confiscated them. The government can’t sell his assets and he may now decide not to sell but run the club but run it into the ground. Who knows what the future holds but it is a sad state of affairs when the government can sanctions assets of a private citizen without due process. Whatever Roman has done in Russia is no concern of the British government because they said he was a fit and proper person to buy the club in 2003. By the same yardstick are we going to grab Newcastle United if at some future date we fall out with the despicable Saudis.

I was reading an article by some air force chappie not so long ago - he was saying that the problem with making it a no fly zone was that if its no fly, then it means no fly for everyone, not just the Russians & he said if its no fly then it has to be policed properly, i.e. if you see anything up there it needs to be identified quickly & probably shot down, he was concerned that the identify quickly part could lead to issues of mistaken identity or friendly fire. Would expect it to be sold PDQ - it’s in the government’s interest, it’s in the buyer’s interest as it would help to prevent players out of contract leaving at the end of the season. And asking price seems pretty irrelevant given Abramovich can’t make any money out of it.

I am no expert but if the RA camp decide to contest the legality of sanctioning him it could probably sit in a kind of stalemate situation for a while which for the club is probably one of the worst outcomes. Originally posted by Davepalace707
