He was at Derby for a full season and took them to the play-off final. At Chelsea he took them to the FA Cup final.

He was at Derby less than 40 weeks and missed out on promotion, not sure how that warranted a job and task the size of Chelsea.

Chelsea had a transfer embargo placed on them at the time he was appointed. He effectively had a free season with no targets, as soon as embargo lifted, goodbye Frank

Really?

You'd prefer that to having the pain of relegation followed by the unbridled joy of promotion either by right or, even better via the play-offs, i know which id prefer . . .

Tee hee

Moshiri always Struck me as a person who really wants Everton to succeed...I guess that they have fallen into the trap of signing 'big names' rather than those who fit their team.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. Moshiri is like the dad who really, really loves his children and wants to them shine...so he throws every last penny at them without a second thought and never says "no" to anything. And, of course, that's NOT the way to raise happy, successful children. Everton have no real plan; no self-discipline in how they spend money, no strategy to build a team. It's splash the cash and hope everything fits. To give Newcastle credit (and their hand was somewhat forced) the players they bought in January were largely sensible; players who were better than they had but who fit their situation. You didn't seem them going in for the likes of Dele Alli, did you? Burn, Wood, etc. may not have long-term careers as the club progresses but they were the right buys at the right time. You can see their strategy. Everton have never had that. They need a total re-set on every level and if Moshiri doesn't learn to run a football club pretty quickly, it's not going to get any better.

Before saying that, have you looked at Everton's remaining fixtures?:

Wolves H
Newcastle H
Palace A
West Ham A
Man Utd H
Liverpool A
Chelsea H
Leicester A
Brentford H
Arsenal A

That's six games against teams playing for or already in the top 4. Newcastle is resurgent and Leicester seem to be coming round to form as are we. Of those ten games, only Brentford would you confidently expect them to pick up points.

Based on remaining games, I expect Everton to go down. I can't see them getting more than 9 points from those ten games.

I would’ve thought you would have left the relegation predictions alone syd following your strong assertion only a few weeks ago that Newcastle United (post takeover) would not win a single one of their next six games…when in fact they won FIVE and drew the other.

Good effort!

The point of that post wasn't really a prediction (although it did include one) as to simply point out how difficult Everton's remaining fixture list is. We all know that in football, anything can happen and maybe Everton beat all those teams but what can't be argued is that using position in the table as a guide, they have a very, very difficult run in that's harder than any of the other relegation-threatened teams. Therefore, not so much me but logic dictates that they're favourites to go down. Doesn't mean they will, but the odds are against them.

As for Newcastle, yes, I was absolutely wrong about them. Balances out my pre-third round draw prediction that we'd get Millwall away! Some you win, some you lose. Eddie Howe has done an outstanding job but for me, the really impressive thing is how Newcastle approached the January window; the mirror opposite of Everton which in my view goes a long way to explaining why one club is going up the table and the other is going down. Where Everton (as usual) bought "big names" (Van de Beek, Alli) who may be decent players but aren't really who anyone in their right minds would sign up for a relegation battle, Newcastle focused on dogs like Burn, Wood, and even Trippier who might not be their future but who know how to keep a side up. For having the self-discipline to stick rigidly to a sensible strategy when there's no doubt Newcastle could have gone in for glamour players, they deserve a lot of credit. They've done exactly what Moshiri has always failed to do and that bodes well for their long-term future.

I am cynical I doubt they will get a real punishment as the other chairmen will be thinking there but for the grace of god...

Everton - the gift that keeps on giving.

Firstly, I always thought that Lampard was being particularly arrogant about which club he would goto when he was available. It appeared to me he wanted relatively big club. So, if this came about, he could well end up back in the championship !!!!

Secondly, if they are in championship they are then lumbered with players like Dele Alli, on big wages no doubt and another who seems to think he deserves to be at big club.

I have said on other social media that the money thrown at this team over the past 5 years has been very significant. Yet they perilous to relegation and worse than when they started spending money.

It may depend on how many other clubs have broken the rules but I suspect you're right. It will be interesting to see which excuses are used to let Everton off (of course, if it was Palace or one of the other unfashionable clubs in the PL, the powers that be wouldn't wait to dock enough points to ensure relegation).
