Salah has rejected a new contract from Liverpool, oh dear, if the 35M release clause is true they have probably already agreed to pay it

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Sleep easy guys. PV says there is no release clause in his contract and he is on a long contract. If he goes it will be upwards of £ 75 million

If you're discussing the press conference then, unfortunately, he didn't. His exact words were...

"What I can tell you is that Michael is a Palace player and we love him and he's happy being with us and he's enjoying his football so hopefully he will be with us for a long, long period of time."

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

We paid just £8 million to an average Championship club when they knew he was worth much more, and we may sell for under £40 million to a massive club.

It's called the pecking order.

That pecking order may be frustrating as hell for us but its certainly worse for the teams in the lower divisions.

There will be a sell on percentage of any further sale, unless Reading are fools. A sell on clause would be the reason, we got him cheap, in the region of 20% I expect.

He had an £8m release clause in his Reading contract

It wouldn't surprise me at all if this Is the way things are going to be for us for a little while; Find a youngster showing potential and sell him on for large profit, allowing us to invest more, attempting to climb the ladder. Kind of Advertising ourselves as a steppingstone club. The more successful this is the more successful it can become.
This is what Southampton did - and by and large praised for for a long time.
The problem - as the saints found out - is that at some point you need to stop selling your prospects, and start challenging the big boys yourself, making yourself the bigger club.

It is fraught with danger - not all new recruits are going to be able to turn this kind of profit, keeping the good talent coming in is key. you need a good system with a fairly high throughput of players. Keeping those who make it, and moving on those who don't. Without this, like Southampton, we'll threaten to improve only for each season to replace the likes of Mane, Van Dijk, Lallana, Tadic & Shaw with Bednarek, Romeu and Che Adams.

We also need to start achieving things when the likes of Olise are playing for us. That is the only way to keep our current talent, and attract more quality players so a club like ours can move to the next level.
Along the way we may lose some very talented players who go on to great things at other clubs. But this is the way it must be until such a time as we are a club players want to join to achieve things.

Very much agreed.

The Southampton parallel is an interesting one and in many ways they are a good club to model - not least as they have had a succession of really good managerial appointments something that is crucial if you become a club that nurtures talent.

Worth bearing in mind though that the finances of the PL have changed and it is increasingly hard for giants to poach talent from an established PL club. The back of my envelope says that PL stars can cost nearly twice as much as those from abroad. Olise from Palace could (without release clause) be 75 mill where Diaz cost Liverpool approx half that.

Not saying that it is possible to price the likes of City and Newcastle out of the market but they will be looking for value and it may be there is less pressure than is generally assumed.

This is 100% how it will go, and is something to aspire too.

Also doesn't mean that we cant achieve stuff along the way and consistently get better. More that its a marker of progression, that we have players that the top teams want.

To have 'proven PL Player' on your CV is still a very much sought after commodity. As is the English Homegrown talent quotient,
and actually it is clubs such as ours - with growing Academy, and youthful transfer policy - which we should be able to exploit.
The price increase that being young, Proven and homegrown brings has been Around for a while. Big clubs will always take their pickings.

Not disagreeing that if they want they will probably get - ultimately. Rather pointing out the process is tricky and often long drawn out.

Numbers may be slightly out but by my count there were only 15 or so transfers last year between PL clubs and that includes Chelsea reserves such as Guehi and Livramento and bit part players such as Dawson. White, Grealish, Zouma, Digne and Wood being the only high profile ones. Think the trend is pretty clear for a downturn in intra PL transfers. Newcastle are of course the club most likely to burn cash.
