Would be another terrific signing if we can get it over the line. Rapid striker who plays off the shoulder. Very similar to AJ in the way he has lots of different finishes. My only fear is that he can sometimes be a little wasteful. 189 shots last season and only 85 on target. He may need to be a bit more clinical in the Prem but he’s still only 24 plenty of time to improve. You see him as a bit wasteful, I see it as a striker that sees the target and has a dig, just what we need.

I'd take those stats with a very hefty pinch of salt if they are being used to show wastefulness - point badly made Ings who is taken to be the among the more clinical strikers in the prem had only 45% of his shots on target last season and a lower proportion the season before. These are similar figures from Armstrong Originally posted by Casual

That 189 includes 55 blocked shots and a large percentage of these might have been on target. Doesn’t really make a difference if they are blocked or hit row Z. Just think he’ll need to be more clinical when/ if he steps up. Benteke had a total of 71 shots last season. Wilf had 60. If Armstrong did come to us it’s very unlikely he’ll get 100+ chances to take a shot. Think he’s a 10-15 goal a season prem striker at the moment. If he gets the chance to settle, he could be 20+ goals in a few seasons.

Think this is pretty much right looking at his record - 10 to 15 seems plausible. Fair amount will depend on the service he gets of course and this being Palace how he dovetails with Wilf. Do think he would get 100+ plus shots over the season mind. Tekkers actually had significantly limited pitch time for those shots making his final return all the more impressive. He was more or less top 6in the league iirc for goals per minute once you strip out pens. Originally posted by Mathers

This is something we are seeing more and more. The curse of the sell on clause. Premier League clubs are selling young talent for relatively small fees with huge sell on. That way if they don't develop a player they get someone else to and reap the rewards. In this case I gather 40% that in turn inflates the selling fee as the club who have done the development understandably want some return. In this case is he worth £20m unlikely but as he cost a shade under £2m the profit of £18 isn't that as 40% goes to Newcastle.
