I was not impressed with Barbados.

Maldives is better than anywhere, although I've not been to Bora Bora. I hear that's nice.

What I dislike is certain Americanisms like saying 'So' at the start of a sentence.
Why do people do that? It's really irritating.

I agree with you totally Hrolf. 'So' to start a sentence. Just not necessary.

Also, thinking of irritating things, but not necessarily Americanisms, why do some folk refer to the ground as floor. Floors are inside, the ground is outside.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Yeah, Barbados is over rated and dangerous with it, most people who rave about it are in a locked in complex and never leave the entire holiday, go for a walk to get away from it for a couple of hours and you are inviting trouble. Cancun is safe as you get, although the rest of mexico is dangerous, the powers to be want the u.s tourist market, so basically don"t take any crap from the local hoods, they go outside to do business.

Got to disagree with you there CP.

I wouldn't go to islands like Antigua, Jamaica, Dominican Republic etc for the reason you state, but I've been to Barbados and stay in a hotel in St Lawrence Gap for the very reason
it's within walking distance of the bars and restaurants, a communal square where visitors and locals alike congregate for music and karaoke and we don't have to stay in the hotel for anything other than breakfast and lunch if we fancy it.

An old school mate of mine moved there when he was in his 20s and has never had any bother either.

I'm no lover of the Caribbean in general but Barbados has been a happy exception.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

My daughter lives in South Carolina. Before covid I visited at least twice a year. I love that it is easy to drive anywhere. I love that they never need coats. A cardigan or jumper is enough. Petrol is dirt cheap. I like that everything is spread out. I love the weather in South Carolina. People, in the main are very friendly and polite. I dislike the gun laws. I hate that many go hunting. I hate the health care over there. Most people only get 2 weeks holiday a year. If I wasn't old and can't afford health insurance, I would move there tomorrow.

Too many Presedential assassinations, and I was going to say not enough royalty. However, probably too much royalty at present.

I got robbed at gunpoint in Barbados, was lucky to get away, the robber got away with a pineapple! Moved to st Lawrence gap, stayed in same hotel Hemingway lived in, it was lively but again lots of hustlers annoying you, its a no from me! Been to Cancun 8 times and never had any trouble, hustler free to!Bit like Florida rather than the real Mexico but i like mcdonalds!

What I really dislike about the USA is their tax arrears due to the UK, now 300 years overdue.

Although it may be an oversight to be fair.

I had the temerity to travel by metro in NYC, I just wanted to get to my hotel, I didn't want the taking of Pelham 1-2-3.

Although Walter Matthau was quite good as Einstein.

A dodgy commute. Mr. Grey was a bit of a hothead.
Not as hot as Mr. Blue though.

Guns don’t kill people. People kill people. People with guns.
