But this is a political echo chamber where opposing voices suffer endless abuse. Which is why the blind hypocrisy of complaining about the BBS is so amusing. I used to think it was worth it for exactly the reasons you suggest but recently it has gone markedly downhill. Some of the posters here are beyond any reason or hope. They are therefore best ignored. It is very regrettable but sometimes it seems necessary to accept that it is impossible to find working compromises and the only way forward is to go around people and their attitudes and not to try to work with them. I think this is your problem Wisbech. You can't entertain the possibility that you aren't always right and therefore, everybody else must always be wrong. It is also not enough for you just to be 'right' but you want to stop others being 'wrong' at the same time. You have no concept of compromise. I'm not sure the BBS will have space for you because they already have people like that.

A different issue really. Some speakers are just too pernicious. Would you really want old hook hand (Abu Hamza al-Masri) talking at your local Muslim primary school? He might just influence one person, but that influence could be catastrophic. This is something we should have learned from the Nazis, except nobody ever listens to Sociologists.
The way the modern left choose to win the battle of ideas is by not platforming anyone elses. Yet when the right and the old left ran the institutions it was the left who insisted on free speech and only the religious right opposed that...Indeed, back then along with the religious it was still the 'progressives' who opposed. 'while you're weak be reasonable, when you're strong be ruthless'.......Endless double standards. At least Chomsky was consistent. Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Jun 2020 1.41pm)

Perhaps some Muslims wouldn't see it as a problem? Some would even actively want him to preach to their kids. Most wouldn't, but that is where the actual problem is. It is in accepting this situation where we are all complicit. We are not allowed to call out anything now and even our Police are scared to do anything.

Free speech has been curtailed by this dastardly woke and PC culture which we have allowed to infest us.

Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Jun 2020 1.41pm) T'was ever thus when people point out that the Prophet told Muslims to live in peace with Jews and Christians they forget to mention that Islam was a minority region at that time. Later with Islam very much in the ascendency the tone alters.

If you say so. H has a point. The latest is the RLB saga, when you read it what is there actually antisemitic, at all. Fresh from Cummins the BBS keyboard warriors scent fresh blood. So she was less than politically savvy so what. As for the joke about the Germans being cut by UKTV well I mean it has become ridiculous.

I suggested to him that its rapid spread in such a short time allied with historical reports rendered that highly unlikely. He wouldn't hear of it.

It was clearly playing to a trope. Those who aren't watching carefully may not spot that.

Such hypocrisy. We had a situation where I expressly asked you to stop replying to my posts so we could avoid each other and you outright refused multiple times. Yet, here you are writing this portraying yourself as a reasonable person wronged on this site. Your relationship to accuracy is about as consistent as your commitment to Hol retirements and pin dancing. The hypocrisy is, as completely usual, entirely yours. If you bother to check back over the last year or more, I stopped replying to you. There were many occasions when I thought your verbosity and self-importance demanded being called out, but I restrained myself. Only in recent weeks, when the moderation disappeared and you took it upon yourself to start replying to me, did I respond to you again, and then only once or twice. So you are responsible for breaking the mutual arrangement, not myself. As always you write total bs wrapped up in pseudo intelligence. Don't worry your oversized head. I won't be here regularly again. I have far more important things concerning me at present than dealing with you and your ilk. Today is just an exception when I have some time on my hands.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

You only stopped replying to me once the moderator had insisted you respect the request. Your omission of that intervention is typical of your approach to the truth. I repeat again, if you had requested that I didn't reply to you then I would have honoured it: if I'm remembering correctly you never did. Yes, here I have replied to a post of yours, if I have broken some restraint you thought I was signed up to then just ask me not to reply to you and I will honour it.....unlike how you responded to me when I originally asked the same.....indeed you made several posts refusing the request.
