I’ve been a Palace fan for a long time and I acknowledge that comparatively we’re in good times and that Parish has in the main done a very good job.
But I am surprised at the view that it’s early days in the window and just because nothing appears to be happening we can’t be sure that it will all come right at the last minute.
Surely the last few windows has evidenced our lack of planning and lack of imagination in signings as well as holding out until the last seconds of the window to obtain a supposed ‘bargain.’
We have 4 non scoring strikers at present.
Based on lack of form and fitness it could be argued that it’s unlikely Benteke and Wickham will again perform consistently at Premier level.
It looks doubtful that Sorloth will even get to the required level in the first place and Ayew can only really be considered a squad player.
Our top scorer in the last two seasons has been a defensive midfield penalty taker.
This against a backdrop of selling AWB and the uncertainty surrounding Zaha, who we are over reliant on in the first place.
I hope the optimists among us are correct.

I know for a fact we are not close to signing anyone at all.

so if you know all the facts why are you asking silly questions on here?

care to share “the facts”?

Oh dear somebody’s easily baited.

I do not know all the facts petal how could I or anyone else?

However it is five days since my initial statement and I will be shocked if we make a noteworthy purchase before this time next week.

If we do however, I hope whichever true deity exists rewards you and lombardos barber’s courage and plight with such questions as ‘how do you know?’ on discussion forums.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Oh dear, again the same question which I’m guessing is coming from a sense of misplaced self righteousness.

I cannot confess to reading the sun or any other newspaper actually apart from the occasional metro however I do search pretty hard on a daily basis for any news, quite probably like a lot of other fans.

Given our track record of not signing anyone till very late in the window, which is a ridiculous game of brinkmanship considering the risk of losing out on targets, the pathetic start we make to each season and the fact that a transfer window is not sporadically announced as a surprise to anyone, coupled with the non-existence of any noteworthy news, I can say with a degree of certainty we are not ‘close’ to signing anybody. I could be wrong of course I could, however the odds are slim.

I said I know for a ‘fact’ in an exhausted attempt to sarcastically answer another pussy post from somebody who feels as though they can reply to a genuine opening for discussion by attempting shoot it down. It does not make you look clever or righteous, it very much makes you look thick as mince and like some bitter, sad old c u next Tuesday.

If you don’t want to discuss, or don’t have something of substance to say like “You never know, we could.... etc.” Then don’t post. Somebody did actually come back to me on this original post and I was grateful for their input and insight. I’d happily engage anyone with anything interesting to say in meaningful conversation.

Braunstoneagle was right then, your claim to know for a fact was incorrect.
Most posts that claim to be factually correct are often a figment of the posters imagination.

Michael Bridge has tweeted that we are indeed on the search for a marquee striker signing this window. That’s probably the most important and hardest position to fill.

Obviously Batshuayi would have been first choice until Chelsea’s ban. However a big striker signing is something that about 10 other clubs will want as well.

Our finances might dictate that we need to wait until a bigger club has made a move and pick up one of their players less likely to get game time.

Moaners will day that’s bargain bucket buying but that’s how we got players like Sakho and Benteke and is realistic for a club our size.

The links with Morelos seem genuine and that would be a decent move as it’s something different to what we have.

It’s very early days but it looks like a traditional 442 is going to be one of the formations we use more frequently, personally I hope with 2 strikers and Wilf back out wide. A huge part of who we buy and how much we spend will no doubt be affected by what happens with Wilf so until that is made clear we are best off probably waiting to make a big purchase.

As much as it frustrates us as fans, Parish takes a much more cautious approach to transfers and money spending in general than Simon Jordan for instance, and I think part of that comes down to our stints in administration that Parish actually saved us from.
The other part you have to look at is financial constraints.. our accounts for last year show we operated at a loss of £30,000,000.
Our main issue is our wage bill compared to our profit made which is something stupid like an 85:15 ratio.
FFP is mainly based around club revenue and where ours is very low, our "allowance" is alot less than other clubs.

Roy wont be given the full £50mil because of the £30m loss i mentioned further up, so dont be suprised if theres not loads of money spent again this window,

Hi just to clarify last year operations (income v standard expenditure) was a £10m profit but a £45m loss on transfers meant that overall losses were £35m.

The previous year we made both an operational profit and a transfer profit (due to Yannick B sell).

Clearly money is tight - we have the highest wages as a % of income (78% I think) but operationally we are fine.

Saying we are operationally fine isn’t quite correct if a professional football club’s main expense is wages which are incidentally from the club’s business model, and then transfers, which are again expensive from the business model. Those will take a while to sort out.

Tell people we’re operationally find at half time at the first home game when there’s no food, warm beer and coke. We might be fine in the main stand or in the Prem because we’ve spent more than a club of our size does or can afford if you factor in a few years into the future but I wouldn’t call it sound or fine until Zaha has left or retired and there’s some consistent and coherent strategies.
