Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Woah back there this needs careful examination. What jobs will there be after corona there will be a lot of unemployment. Do we really want to bring our population up to approaching 70 millions. What will they do, join the rest of the UK in cities standing together with mobiles stuck in their ears, waiting for the next corona? The density and pressure of our population has worsened our corona response. I don't know, there is obviously the humanitarian aspect. Let's think it over.

Hire a few ferries and chuck out every illegal. Then allocate the resources wasted on them to some welcome newcomers.

We cannot take another large influx of newcomers over a short period of time. They are in no immediate danger I agree with Steeleye Boris needs to think this through. If this is a bluff to force the Chinese government to back down I doubt it will work more likely they will be glad to see the back of the Hong Kong people and are are probably planning on replacing them with mainland Chinese as we speak. I am not saying no just hang on a second what exactly are you promising Boris?

Perhaps this shows that the UK Government is not racist...it is giving people in potential danger an organised route to the UK (or is the UK only meant to accept those that travel through the safety of the EU and arrive via an overcrowded dingy). Those from Hong Kong will probably have the means to support themselves, provided the Chinese don't restrict access to their money.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

Since when has the Government given a s*** about any of these factors. They don't think, they do. Edited by BlueJay (02 Jul 2020 3.09am)

IMHO the UK Govt let many people down badly in the lead up to 1997. The BNO passport was a knee jerk invention to give holders the right to enter the UK and stay for a few months to " visit ". Any other purpose such as work on permanent settlement required the appropriate visas. Basically, a document that allowed the holders to enter the UK, as I recall it did not give any consular protection. I doubt the UK Govt is seriously contemplating having 3 million BNO passport holders and their families arrive for permanent settlement in UK over the next five years. I will get criticised for this but the global media seldom or never shows the extreme violence by rioters in HK last year. Similarly no one has showed the photo of the policeman who was badly stabbed yesterday. The police are really in a difficult position. Commentators are saying " vandalism to public transport " is now considered terrorism. Last year the subway system was very badly damaged, stations set on fire and very serious damage done.Rubbish thrown on tracks to try and derail trains. Whether you define this as terrorism is a discussion but it is certainly very dangerous. Similarly buses were hijacked and used as barricades to block roads. What we need here is calm Edited by HKOwen (02 Jul 2020 1.50am)
