I have vague recollections of having watched Ray Potter and Roy Bailey, but like many others Vic Rouse was my first Palace hero followed by Bert Howe and the great Johnny Byrne.

He was also a very nice man who would always stop after games to sign autographs for anyone who asked. He and John McCormick would stay signing until everyone was happy which meant a lot to us as kids.

Not sure he has been mentioned in this thread but there might be some who recall Tony Burns as their 'First goalie'. He went on to be goalkeeper coach at Millwall for several years and was caretaker manager with Alan McLeary for a few games after our former player David Tuttle left his managerial post. Edited by Willo (19 Jun 2019 9.30am) really good keeper from Durban, shot stopper, better than Paul Hammond, we had few sarth effrikanss back then, Bobby Bell b4 Big Mal, Stewart Jump? But Tony Burns was another gem unearthed from obscurity - actually between Jacko and Burridge the keeper situation was a bit unsettled, as it was b4 we got Nigel Martyn in.
