It is still a lot closer than years ago when we had soup houses and people dying of starvation.
The have nots want what the have have.
Then everyone will be a have not in a very short time.

I agree entirely. There could be an improved distribution of wealth but the poor aren't as poor as they once were.
What is certain is that if you wish to climb up the ladder from where you begin, then you cannot rely on others to make it happen. You have to try and make it happen yourself. The super rich did not get that way by whining and sitting on their arse. The fact that they can sometimes pass on this advantage to their descendants is part of the reward.

In 2017
174 billion paid in benefits
( about 20% of the countries annual budget)
Of that 174 about 3.5 billion was in overpayments
Of that 3.5 overpayments approx 2 billion was fraudulently claimed ( 2% roughly)
Like is said a small % and a small amount in comparrison BUT
2 billion quid.
Imagine what that could be used for and what is suffering now through a lack of funding.
Divide that into say £2500 per year per fraud
Some less some more but on average that amount
That is 800,000 people or families
The facts are there pussay in black and white so now you have the figures whats your opinion on the feckless piss taking % now.
Do you see an issue
No one said everyone on benefits.
It was these scrotes!!!!!

So in conclusion you're saying the solution to poverty is catch benefit fraudsters (which is 2% of the total) and poor people learn to cook better

You should run for parliament !

And it depends on where you mark the poverty line. The poor in the UK are rich by global standards.

I expected that answer from you.
They are the figures you said you needed to make a comment on how much is being claimed by deception.
Thats like answering a question with a question.
I will let others make their minds up on the reason you havent responded to your very own request.

Amazing how people will argue this or as this thread shows they don't agree about the problem of poverty in this country but when you start talking about helping other countries or foreign aid, they'll say 'this country should look after their own'

Which it does.

The obesity problem amongst the poor in this country is far far larger than any poverty health threat.

I blame that on immigration too.

Indians and Chinese coming over here feeding us take away and charging a fortune for it. That is making us poorer and fatter.

That may have been tongue in cheek but some of the main reasons for our fat population are immigrated (I've just made up a word) from USA as many of our more obese citizens live on a diet of McDonalds and Coca Cola

I think you're right - plus associated heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

I'm sure that fast food is largely to blame for obesity.

Human beings designed for hunter gathering suddenly exposed to Big Mac, fries and milkshake.

The only answer is to eat less crap and exercise more. If you don't, you will pay the price.
