Apologies for it all being in bold! Originally posted by fish mitten
For those who believe in traditional freedom of speech these are not good times. Indeed. To think this weekend we will remember those who gave their lives so that this country had the right to free speech. We now live in a society where if you don't conform to the liberal elite's way of thinking then you need to be shamed in public. I can think of the time when a tragedy occurred the sick jokes would be circulating within minutes. It was deemed 'black humour'. Having said that nobody was posting it on social media.

We have freedom of speech. We always have done. You don't have freedom of consequence though.

No one can stop someone speaking their mind.....but they can punish them for it. How very Stalin.

that the newspapers identified the names and address of the perpetrators is shameful. if those idiots or their house get targetted, it should be the editor in the dock for incitement to murder.

Back then the western powers rejected it. The Soviet Union being the original proposers and implementaters of 'hate speech' of course. Justifying the suppression of the opposition starts with control of the language. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Nov 2018 12.42pm)

No you cannot have freedom of speech without consequences. With freedom of speech there must be responsibility. And who makes the decision where to draw the line? The politicians, the courts, the people? Since the hate laws have been introduced we have seen an erosion of our freedom of speech yet there was precious little public involvement in this. This is why we need a British Bill of Rights which includes freedom of speech as one of the guarantees. This should not just be a Tory brain child but a proper well thought through well argued and well debated process run by a commission that individuals, groups, organisations etc. can petition and from which the Bill of Rights emerges for parliament to vote on.

Very few from where I'm from would have neither.....Wow, we truly see the difference here. Anything else you want the state knocking on doors about? What's next, nasty rumours? 'He said/She said' gossip perhaps? Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Nov 2018 12.54pm)

Or maybe we should just start locking people up for looking at you in a funny way. Wow, you people really are the new fascists.
