Nope, but they are very worried, just like the bloated MEP'S and their entourages at the EU, that they won't make enough to keep the troughs filled for all those snouts in it.

Has out lived itself - keep a small public broadcaster and float the rest so it can compete in the new markets.

That's a point and one that should be hammered home to the BBC constantly.

Their management creates a BBC that doesn't reflect its population.

Its management is just another elitist neo liberal institution full of hypocrites.

It still creates content that is watched by millions and sold the world over. It is a wonderful institution, and one of the things that makes me proud to be British.

The license fee is a pittance compared to its output.

that's a pretty dumb comment considering that Tom Bloggs pays money for the BBC while Joe Soap enjoys its output.

'sold the world over' ? well then those profits should be repatriated to the UK exchequer.

and as for bias ? i wouldnt even trust their weather forecasts to tell me the truth.

Popularity ? cigarettes are smoked by millions, still bad for you.

the BBC is a dinosaur and needs to be archived at the British Museum.

It would be nice if UKIP had the same impact on the licence fee as they did on Brexit. I struggle to understand the justification for compulsion.

If you want news there are many alternatives from Fox to Al Jazeera pick your personal flavour. Other broadcasters offer dedicated sports channels, nature and documentary channels etc. I cannot think of anything that the BBC provides that is unique.

Now if the BBC focused on education, arts and minority interests not covered by the mainstream then there would be a case for keeping it but at a reduced rate. I see no justification for bilking the public to show reality TV and commercial radio. There is also the argument that if we are going to use taxpayers money why should the BBC have a monopoly? Why can't the other broadcasters receive a portion of the funds in return for providing public service TV on their channels?

Finally if the BBC is so wonderful why not make it a subscription service like the hated Sky? Or are they worried they might not be as popular as they say.

I guess that's typical UKIP policy, populist Trump-eque politics

Look at everything from a negative point of view that we are being hard done by and stoke the mob

You'll probably see the same rhetoric in the right wing (Murdoch owned, Sky owned) press

UKIP is right wing and so is Trump, what's your point? And populism, like the left doesn't do that either?

Re the BBC, you are forced to pay the BBC money in order to watch TV or go to jail. You don't have to subscribe to Sky or buy Murdoch's papers if you choose not to.

I'm listening to 6music at my desk while working right now. That's worth the license fee alone. If it means that you've helped subsidise it then it sounds all the better

I would definitely have you down as someone with familiar with prehistoric traits though, so perhaps you should be taken seriously for once.

One thing the BBC should do more of is promote lesser sports that aren't picked up by Sky and BT. That vast reach would help promote youngsters to get into athletics and basketball, for example. While the coverage and sponsorship generated from the audiences would help support grassroots clubs. Helping kids and local communities should be the role of the 'public service broadcaster' when it's not commercially viable for private companies.
