He still scored more goals in his 5 months at Bournemouth were he didn't start much than benteke has all of this season

Yeah probably, and I agree that Benteke has been a puddle of p1ss this season. Nobody foresaw that happening before we signed him and definitely not last season.

It's just not that simple that we should have Murray and Gayle now and we would've been alright all the way through. Nice thought but we either bought nobody and risked it or we signed a striker who did actually produce pretty quickly and we sold them when they agreed the offers received. If Benteke carried on from last season's healthy return as we expected we wouldn't be having this debate, but in his head he's got himself to this point.

Benteke- 15 league goals in the Premiership last season, 17 in all competitions. In a struggling side with a disastrous first half of the season.
Gayle- 23 goals in the Championship last season, 23 in all competitions. In a side that walked away with the Championship.
Murray- also 23 goals in the Championship last season, in a Brighton side that was runner up.

But on the basis of 1 bad season for Benteke and 1 above average one for Murray and Gayle, suddenly we've made a massive mistake?
We definitely made mistakes with back up strikers, but I think to deride Benteke as the worst thing to ever happen to the club after a poor season is a bit rich.

A bad season? A £30million striker - 2 x goals and one of the worst penalties taken all year across all divisions. That's not bad, that's f*&king appalling.

BTW Benteke scored 13 x goals in the previous season from open play (not pens) in the Premier league. Which I still don't think is good enough.

I think everybody blames Alan Pardew but what about the chairman and directors or the American’s who probably know very little about ‘soccer’! They cashed in theses players for a pittance and there have been no like for like or like for better. We had 2 proven goal scorers for the bench. Or starting together in a 2 up front.

Forgive me for nor reading this entire thread.
Glenn Murray's Mrs went on SM and said that Glenn wants to leave if he isn't guaranteed 1st team football. Pardew said he wasn't, the club sold him. He's moved on twice, a lot of our fans (including myself) haven't.

I refuse to believe there are that many people out there that can't spell. Too f**king lazy, that's what I think.

And I am one of them.
I think that what actually happened was that Murray was told that Wickham was now the no 1 striker and so he was going to be bench only most of the time.
Pardew did like to play his purchases.
Murray realised he wasn't going to get a look in and left and I don't blame him.
He should have been told that he was no 1 but that it was up to Wickham to displace him - good management and if he didn't perform he would have been expected to be dropped.
I don't mind that Gayle went - only Murray (oh and Jedi of course)!

I was torn about Jedinak. His pace had gone and the PL had worked out that if you round him you could take him out of the game. Also his passing was awful at the best of times.
The up side was that he showed courage all the time, made big decisions and never hid. I was there during one game he was benched and he looked sad, i could see it in eyes that he new it was time to move on. So glad that we probably had him at the peak of his career, most Palace fans will remember him fondly.

Gayle had promise but his obvious clash of personalities (and probable s***e attitude) with Pardew did for him. Gave us memorable goals for which i'll always like him and the Scoucers will always hate him!

So Jedi was slow and running out of gas at that time about 2 years ago ? It is sad that you were 'torn' about him.

So how do you account for his outstanding performance for Australia scoring a hat-trick only 2 months' ago ??????????

Before you say 'only Australia', their record compares favourably with ours at international level.

Two of those goals were penalties and the opponents were Honduras rated 65th in the World.

I think people have forgotten Murray wanted first team football which is another reason he left.

Gayle has played this season in the league 26 and only scored 5 that is poor.
