Agreed. We’d be buying a player who should be in his prime. Good time to buy a player. Especially as we’d be looking to install him straight into the first team. As long as he does better than Mandanda.

I am pleased that Roy specifically praised Wayne’s performance yesterday. I believe that both Hennessey and Speroni have improved their games - as shown through the reduced number of goals that we are conceding; accepting the defence has also improved. Maybe the new goalkeeping coach (along with the new management) has proved our best investment. I also do not get some of the comments that the defence do not have confidence in our keepers - there is no recent indication of this. Therefore I do not consider a new keeper as the main priority; or that if we get a new keeper they should expect to go straight into the first team. Why change what has become a difficult team to beat (apart from coverage for injuries). As we saw with Mandanda, reputation elsewhere does not always lead to success at a new club. It takes time to blend in and he may get homesick (again as Mandanda). I would certainly not want to see Hennessey leave prematurely.

Considering Speroni is close to retirement age, I think Wayne will be here for years to come. So now the argument is what about his Wales international career yeah? Well whoever becomes our number two will have to be someone of quality, capable of stepping in. I think Wayne will be the guy still

Always good for the team and the home crowd to see a big keeper taking charge on high balls into the box. As others have said, has coaching played a part? WH keeping his place on merit at the moment.

to be fair, buying a goalkeeper should be long down the list of priorities. wayne is more than good enough for the PL, we need to look at a striker & versatile defender first.

I agree that WH showed more confidence in coming out for high balls yesterday and more willingness to dominate the penalty box. Influence of the new GK coach? Edited by peterg (14 Jan 2018 4.58pm)

We need to sign a new goalkeeper. JS has done a good job this season but is coming up thirtynine. Wayne's form of the last few games is great, bar perhaps Monday, but it's taken time out of the team when we were at a low ebb for him to get to this. Previous similar spells of good form have also been mixed with long unconvincing ones and he could walk at the end of the season anyway.
