He has had to learn about being a football chairman, not a bad effort for his first go!!

I'm sure he will get better each transfer window,

Really ?? he's not learnt from the past Eight.

First teamers at club level though? Nah and money talks. Sakho, Benteke and Cabaye out in the cold at Liverpool and PSG and all now on, average-wise, 100k a week. They weren't that difficult to sign. No bidding wars with other clubs. All about the £££. £70mill that trio cost and another £15mill a year with salary on top of that.

The last time our squad was ready to train together was under Pardew and we got up to 5th, Parish thought Europe was possible and Pardew fancied himself for the England job, the Chelsea job, president of the world. Since then we haven't been ready for the start of a season or been minimally equipped. 1 left back, or 6 defenders and Fryers and then only Benteke is negligent or incompetent and people are laughing at it. Yet he's learnt?

And since promotion have any of our 40 or so incoming transfers when later on let go, shown that they actually can play consistently at a half-decent level in The Prem? They've all seem to have gone to lower leagues or are keeping benches warm.

Take away our three or four Galaticos and a few others and we've mostly been buying sh1te since 2012.

Too many errors followed with EXPENSIVE plaster repair jobs instead of investing time, energy, people and money in scouting to save ££s in the longer term. The travesty is one success signing can cover the investment. Before anyone says Luca, he's come in after we've splashed loads of cash elsewhere.

There's going to have to be an element of starting again sometime, somehow. Freedman in and looking about is a start.

Oh dear another blinkered individual. This is our 5th season in the top division (arguably) in the world.

We started the season with one fit striker, and a goalie who is widely regarded as one of the dodgiest in the league, who currently is being kept out the team by a 38 year old in the twilight of his career.

We have panic bought two out of favour players from Liverpool at a cost of 60 million ish and apart from Cabaye, Townsend and The Serb who else has come in IN 5 SEASONS on a permanent deal that's been any good what so ever, we even signed Benteke's Brother who was s*** ? what the f*** was that about.

the left back situation was/is laughable we have no cover for Ward at left back, whose lack of pace is getting more obvious with every game.

We have been consistently ill prepared for the start of every season we have entered into thus far, or do I have to point out the likes of kevin Doyle ?

I think this is a more accurate assessment.

I don't personally think all his signings have been dogs*** - I think there have been windows when we've brought in very good players.

The problem is he has no grasp of foreign markets and on very few occasions does deals that represent any value for money. Wilf the exception, but let's face it that wasn't exactly hard to spot and he wasn't exactly the player only Palace fans knew he could be at that point.

Parish doesn't value the importance of team cohesion or squad depth and it has pretty much been the major problem every season. Resulting in us scrambling for whatever we can get in january. The only reason we spent big last January is because big Sam was our manager, and there was no way in hell he'd settle for a half arse job (which is probably what Parish was proposing this summer). Again, whilst these signings were necessary, they didn't represent value at all.

Clubs of our size with our type of ambitions can't just focus on signing big names and being obsessed with premier league experience. That scouting model simply doesn't fit our financial position.

This is why there is so much value to a footballing identity and philosophy, no matter how much we look down on such terms in England. It enables you to scout with some form of criteria and helps identify players that will suit our style of play. It also largely increases the chance for the academy to progress, because the whole club is pulling in the same direction.

I think Parish is great and he's done a fantastic job, but he just needs more help with regards to building the squad.

We need a good sporting director to focus on transfers (no evidence yet Dougie is the man, but might be a good sign that Steve is looking for help). This would allow Steve to focus on other bits of the club that need work. Also, having stability at the sporting director level will help to move away from this desire to have a 'long term' manager which is just not gonna happen.

If a manager does well, he leaves for a bigger club, if he does badly, we sack him. A manager should fit what we are trying to do, we shouldn't change our tactics/ transfer approach to suit each manager.

I can understand why Parish wants the control over transfers, at the end of the day the buck does stop with him, but he needs to find someone with the expertise, who he trusts, so we can avoid situations like the summer.

And he's brought in some very good players for us over the years, but our lack of scouting network means we are often overpaying for everyone. (He's also brought in some duffers over the years, but almost every premier league club is guilty of that)

Not blinkered at all. Just don’t live to moan like you obviously do.

Yeah that's right you don't want us to sign top players that cost too much money. Except you do want those players at Palace. So what's the problem? We had to pay the going rate for them?

Unbelievable...

What about Townsend who was picked up very cheap.
Or Lucas again very cheap for what he offers.
And the French number two keeper. Didn't work out but we did get him for what £2m? Pucka deal if he didn't want to go home and proved his worth.

You want us to sign RLC but don't put a figure on what we should limit ourselves to pay. Pay to much and the board aren't reckless and don't get the deal done and we've missed out on the player you want.

Cake and eat it.

Can't have it both ways all of the time. No club can or does.

It's just amazing to me that we're not a selling club. But yes on the flip side it means our funds are stretched. But boy have we now got a good first XI. The price paid for that is a poor second XI.

Hopefully over time that too will change.

Can't have it all at once tho, sorry.

This isn't good post and fingers crossed Dougie is part of the missing link. Fingers crossed he does well.
