But in what way did he liberate them. Don't get me wrong, white rule had to end, but they were reduced in doing so by becoming 'what they opposed' - oppressive and brutal regime, that used force of arms and violence to dominate.

They swapped white masters for black ones.

How bad was it, well it was so bad in Zimbabwe that black refugees sought asylum in apartheid South Africa - and the White Government of South Africa granted them. That's how bad Mugabe's regime was / is, White South Africa thought they were unfairly oppressed.

In Zimbabwe the black majority lived in subjugation to the white minority.

They are free of that and that is what matters most, to them.

Mugabe got rid of white rule.

His people have their dignity and are not slaves any more.

His country was known as the "bread basket of Africa " on account it used to supply a lot of other counties with the food they needed.
And you really think tney got their "dignity" back.
His henchmen went to all the farms and murdered whole families, including the black men who were farm hands,foremen..gainfully employed..with dignity.

always a Norwood boy, where ever I live.

How on earth do you know?

I'm sure as people starved and babies died they loved the idea of people like you feeling happy for them.

Jeepers....feck the skin colour.

He just replaced one bunch of pricks with worse ones.

I don't know why people get so worked up about skin colour in relation to rule in Africa. That is a quirk of history. The particular ruling, oppressive government could be any colour and use prejudice as part of that process just the same.

Not forgetting he massacred a helluvalot of black Zimbabweans in restive Matabeland because they belonged to a different tribe.

Mugabe has no redeeming features nor any positive legacy when he goes. His Hitler moustache suits him.

Smith and the Apartheid loving Whites though enabled him good and proper in order to make a grasp for power (with Nkomo) because of their overall behaviour. Racist policies and making an enemy of the UK Government.

Now they're the simply the "basket case" of Africa.

Opinion seems to be divided on Mugabe - Steeleye is for him, but the rest of the world (including gussett and kermit no less) are against him.

I'm letting Steeleye off because of his youth.

Interesting.

Because what you are really saying is that our colour orientated politics allowed a potentially worse situation for the country and it's inhabitants.

The simplistic notion of apartied bad, black rule good was typical of the sort of remote interference that has been a recuring feature of British foreign policy and one that has produced one mess after another.

A recognition that the youth are, in general, less wise, due to lack of life experience.....most vote left don't you know.

He could always plead diminished responsibility.
