Can we please end this Steve Parish love in, years have now passed and we are all indebted to Steve for saving the club from when it was in administration. A fantastic gesture. But that is now history and we need to move on as a club. The guy is not God and ultimately is responsible for where we are at this point. Some say he has lead us to safety for 4 years, In my opinion he has flirted with relegation without heeding any warning signs each season. Its the same every season, Where will we be at the end of this season when the loan signing return to there club. Probably in a bigger mess than we are right now.

If he hadn't been a player for us and scored that goal at Stockport would he still be welcomed back by supporters after he walked out on us ?

I have watched Palace for 39 years in the third and second tiers and only 17 years in the top tier. I view any year in the top tier as a success and celebrate it as such. Sure we can all be critical but personally I think you are missing the point of being Palace. We aren't likely ever to be another Man Utd so cheer up or ship out.

I note that as of now Burnley have 4 first-team strikers in Vokes,Wood,Walters and Barnes, Swansea have Llorente,Ayew and Abraham, Watford have Deeney,Gray,Okaka and Richarlison and we only have Benteke.

A quote from his press release on joining the club: "I can remember getting a call late one night to say there was an opportunity of a move, and by lunchtime the next day the deal was done." How times have changed

Timing for this appointment seems weird at the least. It's getting a bit late for him to have any impact in this transfer window. Not sure he's the best qualified either. I can forgive him for going to Bolton at the time, and he was a fantastic player. So far the transfer window has been very poor and I think I would have been far happier if we were announcing a couple of new experienced players before the Swansea game. Still hopefully everything will unfold and become clear once the window has closed. At the moment though i'm definitely in a glass half empty mode for the current season and this appointment doesn't make it feel any better.

This seems like a strange appointment, and I hope it doesn't have FDB looking over his shoulder. FDB seems to know the continent well, and we sure have been linked with a lot of players (and anyone Dutch of course). He seems to be taking a long view, and an interest in youth players. But he may not be that familiar with the home-grown rule, nor with the lower leagues we'll need to comb through for talent. So hopefully DF will be playing that role, he seemed to have an eye for talent --and if he helps land Burke even better. We're not owned by a oligarch, so we can't afford to spend 20 million at every starting position, hopefully DF can help there. Interesting to hear SP on BBC Talksport about transfers, that except for the biggest clubs, the transfers will always be last few days. That it takes willing buyers and sellers, and the sellers will always be looking for a better price till the window is about to close. At least with DF there should be another person able to chase and push for a deal.

He wasn't such a "Club Legend" in the eyes of many fans when he deserted the club for Bolton with us being in 4th place in the Championship after 11 league games. He may have "deserted" as you put it but many times since then he has apologised and said that he made a big mistake. He was a great bloke to have around the club and as has been said today bought in some great players and I hope he does again. he will be a great asset for the new manager who has said he likes to have a director of football. I have met Dougie on a few occasions and still use his picture on my profile on here and have never changed it not even for Jules who EVERYONE knows I think is our best goalkeeper! Welcome back Dougie its great to have you back again.
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |
