Been listening to Talksport all morning, and there was an interesting comment made by Paul Merson this morning about Wilshere. It's that, Arsenal, England and Bournemouth last year don't know how they should play Wilshere. They have him as a midfielder creating the play from the middle of park. What that does is expose him when his side doesn't have the ball, and he has to become a ball-winning midfielder. He goes into those challenges to win the ball back with too much energy and gets it wrong. He may win the ball at times, but it exposes his lack of tackling knowledge and there leaves his body open to injury (and he hasn't got the biggest of builds to start with). Basically, give him a free role around the park and let him do what he does best and create play, without too much responsibility for ball-winning. In a deeper laying role, he could often be the last midfielder before the defence. Take that responsibility away from him. I don't think he meant, don't get any not to tackle at all but just not in areas where it's the most important thing. Keeping him out of critical tackles areas could solve the issue of his fitness.

Undoubted ability, but I prefer RLC and I think we would get the best out of Wilshere by playing him in the same position as RLC. If he is a possible replacement for Cabaye then I would be worried he doesn't have the bite or the fitness necessary for the role that he serves. As others have said as well, a perennial sicknote, so on balance I don't think he would be a great signing.

Might as well sign Darren Anderton.

Article in the telegraph today Wilshere set to be offered escape with crystal palace Southgate’s biggest problem as he prepares for the World Cup is the centre of his midfield and Wilshere would be an asset if he is performing regularly in the top flight.

How would this work, we can't loan him as we've already got two loanies. Surely we won't be buying him cash up front without seeing him perform for longer injury free? Maybe have the transfer and wages heavily based upon league appearances? Only way I guess. That being said if he's fit and fighting for a England place then potentially we get a cracking player at a knock down price?

Wiltshire has been playing well lately and if he really is on a mission to try and break into the England team. He just might be worth the risk at the right price! However as Lyons550 has pointed out the 146 games in 10 seasons is a really damning stat that no club can ignore!

Have to get lucky from one of the cheap unfit crocks we've been signing since promotion. Or do we?

Of course though if we're getting another midfielder the player he's likely to be replacing is McArthur. Edited by chateauferret (09 Nov 2017 10.43pm)

I'm not sure if he's a Palace type of player, he may have changed but he's always seemed like a complete and utter one to me. Parrot

What I did point out though was that he seems to be getting over this 'injury prone' period of his career if the last 18months are anything to go by and if that's the case...NOW would be the time to go for him...not when he's back up to speed and attracting far better clubs.
