If he can toughen up and take the field with the same mental attitude that he displayed in the Euros, then he may well fit into the FdB style of play. Let's give him a chance in the pre-Season games and see where he goes from there.

He's never really much eye for a pass. If he used the ball better and was able to get rid of it quicker, he probably wouldn't spend as much time getting clattered. Particularly for Wales it seemed like his only contribution was to try and win a foul because he wasn't going to produce much else.

I think that's something that can be coached at a young age though. For me the problem with Joniesta is that he hasn't had the experience necessary to grow. 23 is relatively late to be breaking onto the scene and being taught the craft of a premier league player and by this time one would've hoped he'd have a lot more first team experience. No doubting he's always had a lot of potential there.

No, we're judging him on the evidence we've seen when he's played.

I don't think that there is much chance of any improvement on his previous standard as a result of not playing ?

I haven't seen Kyle Da Silva recently either, do you think he's morphed into a Premier League no.10 in the last couple of years?

In any situation we have an opportunity to play Jonny, we'd probably be better playing playing someone like Kaikai or Dreher even.

At Notts County and FC Eindhoven? I somehow doubt it.

Jonny Willians is hugely deficient in many many areas to be a must-have member of any PL squad (robustness, athleticism, tackling, calmness under pressure and passing to name a few). He might be a cheap make-up-the-numbers option if we are stretching ourselves financially in other departments (think Kevin Doyle, Frazier Campbell and few others who I think we hoped could do a job if we needed a warm body to bring on).

However, I'm not completely down on the lad. Look at Bolasie. That is a career that really could have gone awry and I think back to perceptions of him when we got promoted. Many thought he'd never cut it -- same as for a lot of that promoted squad. But many of them can look back with pride on their contributions.

The truth is that none of us know what Williams would do, and how his game would come on, if he was available for a full season and got a good amount of time. But he's unlikely to instantly shine. Very unlikely: he'd need to bring his A game, and for others to be out unexpectedly.

I'd still love it for him if he did somehow make it.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

My goodness if Williams had NOT come through our academy and was purchased, would we have had this debate ? Probably many would be thinking "Get rid".

But the obvious thing to say to that Willo, is that Joniesta is from the Palace youth set up. This out pouring of concern reflects our disappointment at having one of ours nearly make it. Play international football to a level comparable to England, at the time, but still not cutting it.
It suggests the heart of true Palace supporters are upset by this, as we should be. He doesn't seem the biz but Frank the boore May make it happen, I hope. And I bet most on here do too, as he is Palace

I gave up on him years ago when it was obvious that he was an average Championship player, at best, with an horrendous injury record. He should pursue his career at a lower level, for his own sake, as well as ours.

My memories Of Jonny is a player who got into a cyclical loop of breaking into the first team showing skill and promise. After 1 or 2 games getting clattered by some thuggish championship challenge, getting injured, then recovering and breaking into the first team showing skill and promise. After 1 or 2 games getting clattered by some thuggish championship challenge. and repeat ad infinitum

though this probably only actually happened once or twice, it's still my overriding view on him: someone whose career was stunted by injury.
